Talking

I got the JL 10" W6v3s ordered last night. I got a great deal on a pair from an authorized dealer, but most likely will only be using one of them on a JL 500/1.

For installation I am looking to conserve the most amount of space I can in the trunk, and most likely getting everything custom installed unless I can find a prefab box that can fit in the trunk on the hump.

For interior speakers I am not going to change anything just yet, except for the center channel. I will switch it out for an infinity reference 3.5inch.

What’s the best LOC you all found to use with the ELS to install the sub and retain the sub-control. I take it I can just tap off the stock sub leads to get signal.

Over the summer I will start the process and will update the thread with pics from sound dampening and install pics.

just say the typo on my title sorry about that. Mods if you could please change to " Upgrade to ELS intiated"

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

If you are like me, you'll need a grille to keep that 10" from being poked out by your wife's golf clubs.

Looking forward to the build pics.

Not to be critical, but when correcting something, proofread the correction.

I say this with some authority, as I've made the same error more times than I can count.

for the LOC I used. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done and includes your remote wire.

Don't know if this helps, but this is how my sub fit in my '10. Speaker is a 10W7. Box available if anybody is interested.

Got the first piece of the puzzle today. Actually ordered 2 because a authorized dealer took 25% of each sub. Might sell the second one..

My 3G Type S has 72,000 miles on it. If I were going to work on the sound system, I should have done it a LONG time ago.....

I like the way the system sounds (I think I'm one of the only ones....).

and....done.

The equipment

JL C5s upfront (front doors matted)
JL 12w6v3 (not the 10" mentioned above)
JL 900/5 HD
Audiocontrol LC8i

Its late and I snapped one pic

The rear doors are disconnected and the rear shelf stock speakers are running off of channel 3&4 of the JL and work really well as rear fill for now.

Overall the system went beyond my expectation and Ultimate Audio did a great job!

Now I have the 2nd 10w6v3 for sale

with this upgrade did you maintained the 5.1 surround sound or does the LC8i brings it down to 4 channel output. More info would be very helpful, very interested how they set it up, and how you like the sound. Do you control volume with your radio, or with the LC8i? So far I only have a sub in my trunk but very tempted to get the rest ungraded as well, however info on the ELS is pretty limited.

The LC8i brings it down to 4 channels, I wanted to keep the 5.1 but at the end of the day there is not that much media that supports it. I believe if you use the Audiocontrol DQX (I think that’s the right model) with the lc8 you can keep the 5.1.

For the setup it’s simple, they mounted the crossovers in the front passenger panel by the foot wells, Audiocontrol bass level knob under the dash. For sounds the imagining is perfect for me, since the rear levels are turned down and the center channel blends perfectly without any delay (still running off of els). The Midbass was a little overkill for me and I had to switch it to the low setting from the crossover.

The volume is all controlled from the stock deck, including the bass, treble, and subwoofer. The integration is great because all the factory controls are maintained. Bluetooth works great no issue there either.

Is there any specifics I can help with? Overall the Audiocontrol LC8i did a great job of the integration.

I used an LC8i in my previous system in an Infiniti FX50, and it worked great. Great device to maintain factory controls, but add aftermarket amps/speakers.

Wow now I'm inspired to get my system done. The ELS is great but I need more. I have always upgraded my stereo. Last truck I had 2 FoCal 11" subs, JL 500/1, Alpine Type R door speakers all around, and an eclipse AVN5500 with two 7" TFT screens in the headrest. I think I will skip the screens this go round.

I am so impressed with the LC8i, I was thinking I would need to buy a expensive processor to get the sound I want but the LC8i does a amazing job.

dnd2984, do you know how is your LC8i connected? Did you keep the 5.1 surround with the LC8i? I would like to know how the speakers are connected because I want to keep the 5.1. I was thinking something like:
Ch1 Fronts
Ch2 Rears
Ch3 Center
Ch4 Sub

I do not know the specifics of the connections.

I did lose the 5.1. The center channel is still running off the ELS amp. I wanted to keep the 5.1 but at the end of the day its a car and all I need is stereo sound.

Update: Ever since my system was installed I was lacking mid-bass. If you look at my post above it will explain why I was missing the heavy mid-bass in more detail but will give the cliff notes below.

So about 2 weeks ago my wifes car needed window tinting and I took her car to Autostyles in Clearwater FL.

As her car is being tinted, I started to talk about my car and how the sound system that was installed in my car by a shop in Ocala, was missing the dynamics of a high end system (this is before I took the panels off the door). I drove my car up there to Autostyles and the manager agreed that the SQ just isn't there. I listened to his personal car which had the identical equipment as my car and there was a night and day difference.

The first shop did a horrible job on the door speaker install (and sold me used/old ass speakers) and I also told them to sound dampen the doors...heres some before pics of the doors with the sorry ass job of matting the doors and midbass sticking out of the door.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9448800568/http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9448800568/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/97033171@N07/, on Flickr
Only 3 screws holding in the speaker because the basket was not flush

http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9500018336/http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9500018336/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/97033171@N07/, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9500015706/http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9500015706/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/97033171@N07/, on Flickr

Driver door, there was matting on the outer skin in the door but no where near what it should have been.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9497216737/http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9497216737/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/97033171@N07/, on Flickr

The owner of the first shop drove down to Tampa to delivery me a check for the damage his shopped caused to my rear door and quarter panel (car needs a new door and paint). At that point I gave him the C5 speakers back and he refunded me the install cost and speaker cost.

Also last week I discovered the HD900/5 was dropping volume in one channel so that had to be replaced too.

For speaker I ended up going with Focal (thanks for the suggestion Oscar!)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9500014490/http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9500014490/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/97033171@N07/, on Flickr

I was pretty excited and did a quick test fit of the tweeter, the tweet on the K2 Power is pretty big but fits perfectly in our TLs
http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9500013204/http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9500013204/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/97033171@N07/, on Flickr

So this past Saturday I got everything installed, and the shop manager Bill at Autostyles was kind enough to keep me in the loop the whole time by texting me updates.

my door being properly sound dampened.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9497214225/http://www.flickr.com/photos/97033171@N07/9497214225/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/97033171@N07/, on Flickr

Autostyles also ran speaker wire directly into the door and straight back to the amp. I did not change the box and the trunk setup as there was nothing wrong with that.

Now even at low volumes the system sounds great, I cant believe that all my years in car audio it took me this long to give Focals a chance. The Focals are really heavy with midbass, and defiantly brings the front stage to life. Overall the system sound alot more dynamic, louder, and cleaner.

I'm glad everything work out for you and now that you have tried C5 JL speakers you can see that Focal would make a big difference.

Boston is good stuff, I remembering hearing the Z6s back in the day and they where amazing. Is boston still doing car audio?

Also folks heres some pics of the box, I will give Ultimate Audio credit here, they did do a great job on the box.
