Stereo install, face subs rear or foward?

I removed my stereo from my 2006 TL before I traded it in Im having a custom enclosure built for my 10" JL w3's one shop told me to face foward with about a 3" gap between rear of the back seat and the other shop told me to face toward the back of the trunk.

My question is will I experiance as much trunk rattle as I did with my 2006 TL? The 2010 has the plate mounted to the bumper and seems to have more foam between the panels but I figured it would best to ask for a few opinions.

Im running a JL slash 500/1 amp and the enclosure will be sealed.

Thanks.

I never understood the speaker in the back corner of the trunk facing into the trunk, that has to cause a boatload of cancellation. If I was building it, I would make a box that sealed(as best as you could) to the back of the seat and then flip down rear seat armrest to let the speaker waves come into the cabin. That's why the stock subwoofer is in the rear deck and not in the spare tire well. Think of putting a sealed box over your head and yelling. Now cut a hole in the front and stick your mouth to the hole and yell. Which do you think is going to be louder and clearer from the outside?

But, I guess if space is an issue and you don't want to take up trunk space, I can understand why people put them in the corner. You will still get a bunch of bass, because the waves are very long at low frequencies, but it will be muffled and muddy in my opinion.

If you aren't concerned with trying to get one side of the speaker separated into the cabin and one side into the trunk you could position it forward or rearward. The waves propagate off both the front and rear of the speaker and are long enough that you will feel it in the cabin either way. My opinion is still that you will get a stronger wave with the speaker facing forward the cabin. But, if you don't separate the front of the speaker into the cabin and the rear into the trunk, there is going to be some cancellation.

My box will be under the rear deck I need the widest part of the trunk for golg clubs. My last TL the box faced rear but the rattle was kind of annoying.

Have you considered dynamatting the car, expecially the trunk and rear deck?
