Just got the call from 855-404-0160, welcoming me to XM with my new purchase, and the rep asked if I wanted to continue my subscription after my trial for $5.00 +tx a month. I asked if Traffic and Weather were included, it was not, and was an additional $3.99 per service. She did allow me to turn off XM Radio (not a big fan), and just leave Traffic/Weather on for $7.48 a month.

Hmmm - $5/month would be a phenomenal deal if you were a fan. Wonder how the rest of us could get such a deal...........

So I was only interested in the Navi Traffic so I talked to the rep and was able to waive the activation fee of $15. Subscribed only Traffic for 45.89 for a year like how it shows on their website. I may do for 2 years later since it gives me 3 month free.
Do mention about waiving the activation fee when you'd stopped the service and want to reactivate your radio.

Ahhhh...it's about that time of year again and just did the whole song and dance, today, with SXM. The guy who I initially spoke to said that promotions are only specific to certain radio's. I told him I've been doing this routine for the past three years and I've always gotten the half off promo. I told him if he didn't want to offer me a promotion then I'd cancel the service. He said "ok no problem, I'll send you over to cancel your service." I knew they weren't going to cancel the service. The other rep immediately offered me the $89.00 renewal plus the royalty fees. She also tried to get me to pay an extra $11 some dollars because I didn't renew the service prior to it expiring. I told her I wasn't going to pay that fee. They just sent me a bill two weeks ago. That's their fault for not sending me the bill on time. Regardless I wasn't paying for it. She said she'd waive the fee.

So...not sure if anyone else posted about the (I think it's called) "U-Service" fee, but if they try to get you to pay that fee, tell them to kick rocks and you're not paying for it.

Just renewed on our 09 Ody - TL is up for renewal next month. Had to go to cancellation department to get any kind of deal other than standard. Ended up with 5 months for $25 ($33 after taxes and fees). Works for me.

Renewed through cancellation dept-- 5 months for $27, including all fees, taxes and a $2 invoice charge (I never want to auto-renew).

I followed the script to a T on the zwinback $77 for 1 yr promo and it failed to work for me.
So I closed the account completely F*** em'

I can stream spotify or pandora etc etc from my phone for no extra cost per mo, so XM is really becoming a bit out moded anyway...but I would have kept it for convenience factor at $77

Exactly my thoughts...it was a decent product several years ago, but for substantially less money per year (and better service/ ability to customize stations), I'm sticking with Pandora- plus, we use it at home and in all the cars and on the MC for just one fee ($4.27/month) vs. individual subscriptions for each radio. Unless XM/Sirius stops jerking people around, I don't suspect they will be in existence 10 years from now.

All of the above, plus, I can't stand their deceptive billing tactics as I have posted previously.

Yeah, I am getting tired of doing this every year. Apprehension as always...

I received two pieces of mail, one for traffic which somehow renewed on a different day than the XM select. Go figure. But the combined total was $229.39, so I knew I had to call. Last year I paid $140.11, but probably because I called after those jokers already renewed. Can't do that any more!

Anyway, used the standard 866-635-7189 number, and went to cancellation department (through the automated prompts). The guy was nice enough, and seemed to walk me headlong to the cancellation I requested. I told him I liked the service, but wow, that price. I just can't afford that any more.

At the last minute, he said my account was in good standing, and here is an offer: $89 for XM Select, and $23.94 for traffic. I also got a credit for calling early (called later in the year last year.) Sure, I took that. 89+23.94+(8.64credit)+2(invoice fee)=119.43.

Thanks, Acurazine!

Just renewed my 07 TL for $25/6 months. Very nice lady offered regular rate, then half price, then half of that for 6 months. Told her a friend recently got 6 months for $25 and she said "we can do that". As soon as she was done I told her that I wanted to cancel my wife's plan on her car and get the same deal. She went through the exact same script...I kept saying that it was too expensive, and we ended up at the same deal. So 2 cars for 6 months each at $25. They bill me (never give credit card). Just need to call before auto renew and go through the same song and dance again. Easier to do now since I really don't love XM as much as I used to. In the old days there were no DJs talking...just music. Been "canceling" for 7 years now. Thanks again Acurazine!

I did mine 3 months ago on my Pioneer portable, Wife's 2009 TSX and my 2010TL + Weather and Traffic at a very good price, $85 for the year.. Just called to cancel my full TL subscription as I traded it in on a 2015 MDX SH-AWD, Advance.. I now get traffic and weather for free now with Acura-Link, and after my 90 day free subscription to XM is up will need to call back and work on another year for the MDX. They credited my account on the TL for $139.00, so I expect my renewal will be LESS than my credit.. Will probably need to figure out on the refund for that... Deals can still be made,,, Even with the MDX having HD radio, Pandora, AHA and San Diego and Los Angeles FM and AM radio stations I still LOVE XM!!! BTW, The new MDX is Just Great!!

I just renewed my XM radio again and got, what I consider, a great deal. I called at 1:00 pm Seattle time and said it was too much and would cancel if I couldn't get something better deal. They transferred me a couple of times and I finally got the cancellation department. They offered me a one year deal for the $89, traffic for $23.94, a couple of days of credit with the royalty fee of $11.13 for a total of $123.30, and it only took less than 15 minutes. Pretty good I'd say.

My service expired 10/4 for the trial service. I received a flyer in the mail for $165 plus tax and I just called them to tell them it was way to expensive. I got the $89 + tax deal instantly with the invoice option. Thanks Acurazine!

+1 for another $89/year renewal. I called yesterday to negotiate a new renewal deal since I wasn't going to pay the published rate on my Renewal Notice postcard ($185.50!). It was relatively painless and I got the $89 deal which, a/c this thread seems to be the best deal being offered these days. I hate doing this each year but the call is worth the savings. I guess there must be enough SiriusXM users out there that just renew at the full rate that the company lets them and rakes in the money and then figures they can offer the savings to those of us who bother to call them each renewal.

Not really. Their business is all fixed cost, with very little variable cost. They could (and arguably should) offer the lowest rate to everyone, right off the bat, to increase subscriber base, since they could double or triple their subscriber base without any significant cost of overhead.

I just got off the phone from cancelling with them, as I found out that they renewed me without notice at over $200 a year. Fortunately, my actual cost is less than $20, since I caught them soon enough. They really are an awful company. And, in my view at least, driving a car with a CD / DVD-A deck, am/fm stereo, and a HDD loaded with music, XM really is an unnecessary extra.

I was satisfied with the rate they gave me previously, but they wouldn't give me that rate on a yearly basis, instead making me phone in every 3 or 6 months to renegotiate. That's why they charge the higher fee...by making that the "standard rate", they can attempt to justify bumping users unilaterally, with the knowledge that a percentage won't be paying attention and will pay the increased rate for a year or two before realizing they're getting ripped off.

Again, a truly awful company with a horrible (and, fortunately, dying) business model.

I agree with sockpupet, you don't have to go thru this bs with Netflix or any other subscription entertainment service that I know of. Considering how many new cars are equiped with their box they should have a lot more subscribers, but they don't. If FM radio and internet wasn't so poor where I live I wouldn't have them.

Great thread but sad sad deal huh. Gotta call at a certain time to get US person, gotta call routinely to get the best "deal", hassle, hassle, etc, etc. Nearly identical thread on a Corvette Forum site. It seams they have a pretty good product but are slowly driving away their customers. I have chosen to not even make the first phone call to them...just not worth the headaches. Already have nearly the same issues with our TV, Internet, phone provider...Comcast.

I'm surprised you only had to talk to one person. Typically when you mention you want to cxl, they bounce you over to the "customer retention dept."

was also surprised. was prepared to have to talk to different departments. they were even very quick on sending me a e-mail to verify the cancellation.

called the number in the letter they sent. Said that the rate they wanted me to pay was way more than last year, they said they would honor my last year price one more time. This was not my first time on promo btw. Either way it was done and over with in a few mins. I just have to remember to call back an have them take off auto renew...

One call to 1888-601-6302. Stated that I wanted to cancel, and the guy put me on hold to find out what my account qualifies for. Came back at $89/month, + taxes and fees, and a $22 past due balance (my subscription expired last month). I authorized a ONE TIME credit card payment, and boom, done. Easy.

I thought I would try using the Sirius chat to see if I could get a better deal than $185.50 they billed me to renew my service for a year (up from the negotiated $94.16 last year). I wrote on the chat window I wanted the $25/6 month deal. Rep wrote back that I was not eligible for that. So I called 888-601-6302 and said I was not happy that my renewal rate was almost double last year and I wanted to go the 6 months for $25 route or I would cancel and just listen to "regular" radio. With no hassle at all, the rep agreed and said I would be charged a total of $32.16 (no traffic or weather) and after 6 months, the regular rates would return. She asked for a credit card - I asked for a paper bill. She said there was a $2 fee for that but she would renew me today and send me a bill. Works for me.

Does that include tax and fees? I was offered around the same price but it ended up being around $170 after everything. Also, do our cars in Canada have traffic update? I never noticed if we did or not.
