"Random" playback via USB not so random?

Anyone else notice that the "random" mode is not so random??? I've noticed this recently while playing music via my usb stick. I have about 400 songs on there and I am constantly hearing the same ones over and over again... I feel the more times a song is played, the "random" computer will pick the more played songs more often...

Tell me I'm not going crazy...

by the way... i love this frickn car!

This is a file system issue. The "random" is playing only the songs in that sub-folder. It depends on how and how many songs were loaded at that particular time. Try loading all the songs at once, during one session, on the device.

same issues on my 3G type-s and my 4G... the algorithm sucks.

when selecting random, you can have it stay within the one folder, or jump multiple folders.

i have one folder on my flash drive that has about 900 songs... with random function on, i hear about the same....50-60 tracks. its pretty irritating

btw. 64GB flash drive for the win =)

I have the same problem, it's not really random at all.

If i switch from normal play to random, it replays in almost the same order everytime!! What's the point of having a random feature if its not random? oh well

But how do you have your file system set up? It sounds like dropping all files into a single directory is problematic (to say nothing of how difficult it would make finding any single track).

I have directories for each artist and then under each artist, a directory for each album by that artist. Random seems to work wonderfully for me. Keep in mind, with that set up, the system will only display the albums, but they're shown alphabetically by the artist folder... which is crazy to me, but at least it's still easier to scroll through 90 or so album directories than 900 or more individual files.

I think the order is alphabetical because that is the order the files were copied (that's the default if you used Windows to drag and drop). The 2010 TL manual says that the directories are displayed in the order they are copied to the USB stick.

I use WinAmp to copy playlists to the USB stick. This way, each directory is a playlist and the songs are kept in the same order and my PC.
