Question regarding HDD-based audio on 2012 TL
sorry if this has already been covered... but a friend of mine JUST got his hands on a 2012 SHAWD TL.. and had the following inquiry:
on the hard drive you can only burn legit cd’s (no MP-3’s) so that the song names will appear.
so the HDD does not support mp3 storage? well.. no big deal cuz he can just plug in a USB drive into the usb connector or ipod connector.

If I understand your question, and what you mean are cd's made from mp3's (ie. taking 15-20 mp3's and burning them as an "audio cd"), then you are correct...they will generally rip to the HDD, but there will be no album info associated with it (making the process kind of pointless). The system uses Gracenote's database, so a "mixed-tape" type CD won't be recognized. A copied disc will be...at least it's worked everytime I've tried.
Curiously enough, my kids love Robert Munsch stories...I think they're either creepy or stupid (the stories...and maybe the kids), but to each his own. So I've played a few of the discs that came with the books, and they were, of course, immediately ripped to the HDD. Surprisingly, the system applied album info to them...but the completely wrong info. One story (each CD has maybe 5 - 8 minutes of spoken sound) was labelled as being an Eminem title.

As far as I know, the HDD can rip songs only from legit cds (Audio CDs)... You can't put in an mp3 cd with 150 songs on it and expect the HDD to rip it... Also, the album and title information on the HDD depends on how the Audio CD was originally created.. If you bought it as an CD from a music store or downloaded it legally from amazon or google music, then you will have title information.. If you created your own Audio cd from an mp3 collection, you have to make sure that the title/album information was entered properly prior to recording the audio cd..
It's also suggested that you upgrade your gracenote software to pick up the most updated song information from their database..
