Two "Classic" rock albums are being released on DVD-A in the next few weeks.
Early reviews of the Yes disc played in an Acura have been very good.

Pardon what is probably a stupid question, but I see on Rhino's website that they are releasing a newly remastered version of Van Morrison's Moondance. One of the releases is:
Blu-Ray Audio disc with high-resolution 48K 24 bit PCM stereo and DTS-HD Master, Audio 5.1 surround sound audio of original album (no video)
I assume we cannot play that on our Acura DVD-A player...

You can rip it with foobar then burn it with HD audio solo to a dvd-a - 48 24 bitrate is low enough so that you will not need to create groups
Go to this site to grab the update, unzip to the thumbdrive (not in a folder, but in the root directory), and then plug into your car. Update takes a stupid amount of time, for what it is, but should be done within about 15 minutes. The updates are supposed to be quarterly, but lately that's the exception. Next update is supposed to come out this month, but I'm not holding my breath.
Here is a great resource for seeing what is available in rock DVD-A.

So far my favorites have been Steven Wilson - Insurgentes and No Man - Together We're Stranger, but I went kinda nuts and have Rush - Moving Pictures, Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun, PT - Fear of a Blank Planet, PT - The Incident on the way. I'd be all over Deadwing and In Absentia if they didn't cost so damn much but I have a feeling I'll cave in and buy them eventually... just looking for a better deal.
Honestly I sometimes just sit in my car with the engine off to admire this amazing system (TSX SW) and am trying to figure out what's the best way to do that without worrying about needing to replace the battery sooner.
So I went to the site above and I am not sure I understand. Once you buy a track or album from them, so you burn it to DVD and let the TL headunit read that as a DVD-A or are you downloading them as compressed files and playing them from a player (iPod)?
Their site does not explain much about the playback options.

My Rush - Moving Pictures DVD-A spends more time playing in my TL than any other disc. It just sounds so good that I never want to take it out. PT - Fear of a Blank Planet also sounds amazing as well as The Beatles - Love.
To me the worst thing about most DVD-A's is that they sound so good I can't listen to CD's or MP3's anymore in my car. They just sound terrible to me and it forces me to buy more expensive DVD-A's to have a nice assortment of music.

Can't wait for Moving Pictures now! Reading through the reviews on that site I posted it seemed like they really got the mix right on that one.
King Crimson - Discipline sounded great too... such a short album but songs like Frame by Frame really sound great.
It all makes you realize that the 5.1 audio concept has so much potential that seems like it won't be realized. The number of people doing mixing is few and the number doing mastering and authoring is even fewer, which is strange considering that 5.1 has been around practically forever in video DVDs.
Anyway, very fun stuff and it really makes having this car an even more special experience for me.

I found it useful after buying two Opeth special editions for the DVDs and finding out that they were authored as DVD-video and won't play in that system.
Also worth repeating a great tip I found on this forum... hold 6 on the newer model cars to change the group number and go between 5.1, hi res stereo, alternate mixes, etc..

Oh and I don't get woken up by her alarm way early in the morning either.
A buttload of CDs came in today. I started with Anathema's We're Here Because We're Here. Great album. I definitely heard a lot of stuff I never noticed before on the CD, like bird chirps and weird ambient noise. I also loved how some of the background vocals were literally mixed to the back. The one thing is that SW's mix seems to have a lot more energy in the low end. This brought more liveliness to some parts but it also made it a heavier listen, even fatiguing, which is weird considering how gentle of an album it is.
This is the best mixed of all the Rush DVD-A's imo. They took a perfect album and made it sound better.

I finally got a chance to listen to Close To The Edge! The surround sound mix is excellent. I love hearing specific little things out of every different speaker. This is good-it's worth the purchase. Just know that this is not what I call a great "commercial" album. There is a bonus track of "America" on the disc too.
So sad
I enjoy DVD-A in my Acura every single day. But my run of Acura's will come to an end. The new gen Acura's don't have DVD-A capability. The RLX and new MDX specifically. So when my current Acura gets old and goes out to pasture, my loyalty to Acura will die with it.
Plenty of other luxury brands still support DVD-A, at least as an option. Not sure how much money Acura is really saving by removing a feature that it championed.

Just saw this thread. I bought the Yes Close to the Edge dvd audio. None of the bonus material, including America will play on my 2012 TL Advance. All i can play are the 3 original tracks which are CTTE, And You and I, and Siberian Khatru. Does anyone else with 4th gen TO have this disc?
Do a Google search for "Dark Side of The Moon DVD Audio Torrent" and burn a copy of the Alan Parsons Quadraphonic mix. It's mixed flawlessly and sounds stunning through the ELS system.
* The DVD-A version is floating around on the internet and may be considered a "pirated" version. However, the record label that owns the rights to DSoTM released a SACD and scrapped the project to release a DVD-A to retail decades ago. I do not know the details, but since the DVD-A is not available for sale, sharing it will not infringe on the profits of the company who owns the rights to it. If I am out of line or against the rules for this forum, please let me know. Didn't post a direct link to any URL just in case.

Impossible. Up to this moment, there is still no viable way to defeat the anti-copying watermark on DVD-A, which will only allow "pirated" discs to play the first 3 mins of music on every copied track.
The watermark is not on every disc. I have a copy of DSoTM that plays just fine. I've burned a number of DVD-A's, both from torrent, and as copies of original discs I own (I try not to keep originals in the car).
Bump because I'm still enjoying the hell out of DVD-A in my 2011 TSX Wagon. The collection hasn't grown much, but as the years have gone by my ears have picked up on more and more details in the recordings and how they were mixed.
