I just wanted to ask about the experience on the navtool for 4th gen Acura TL . Has anyone installed it recently and does it still worth IT? I'm planning to hook up my car with one soon. I want to mirror my android phone as well as have android auto on my navigation. It seems most auto radio installers don't know much about this module. I have been to couple of prominent stores around my place and it sounded alien to them. The one that happened to know it argued it wouldn't work with android but just Apple carplay. I had to refer him to contact the navtool Contact center to confirm it actually has android auto inclusive.
Also I read somewhere that you need to upgrade the firmware before installation. Is this applicable to the 2012 Acura TL as well?
Are there any issues of concern with this module (like glitches, backup camera issues). I am not installing it myself though. I already got this guy on YouTube who does all this car modes and sound system upgrades to help.

I have the previous version on my 2012 TL. It has the old 30 pin apple connector, but works great for video output. My version doesn't have carplay or AA though. I did my own installation and it wasn't too hard - the hardest part is getting everything to fit back there!
Communication with the Navtool guy sometimes is great and sometimes not so much. Overall I would rate it a B-.
I downloaded the Navtool updater and connected the Navtool module, selected 13 TL AT because MT was not available and updated the firmware to the latest available. I set my backup camera to the factory back up camera since it was set on aftermarket back up camera by default. You're able to update the module with a USB A to micro USB cable, it does not need to be installed in your car before updating.
I crimped the 12v power, ground and orange back up camera wire from the harness that connects to the Navtool box to the HA16P harness. From what I understand the orange wire will give the factory back up camera priority of the screen when in reverse.
The install itself took me a few hours, it wasn't hard, just time consuming routing all the cables. I wanted to install the Navtool box on the passenger side kick panel but there just was not enough space so I ended up stick some double sided tape on the box and mounting it on top of the glove box. Because I mounted it on top of the glove box, I did have to basically remove the glove box completely.
For my setup I have a Roku stick (which keeps losing it's setting because it doesn't have constant power so I'm switching over to a Firestick when it arrives). Since I already have dashcams installed, I already have a fuse tap installed so I was able to buy a dual USB port power plug to power my Roku stick. I also ran a USB A to micro that runs through the cabin filter opening so I can update the Navtool without having to take everything apart.
Overall Android Auto seems to work, however the top of it is cutoff slightly (see picture). When I emailed the Navtool guy to see if there's a way to calibrate the display he basically said no, it's controlled by the car, which I find odd. I tried adjusting it inside Acura's diagnostic menu with negative results. I'm going to keep working at it to fix it.
There is faint distortion when the car isn't running and I'm just running in accessory mode. When the car is actually running there is no distortion. When putting my car in reverse and I'm in Android auto there is a quick half second of distortion but it's really not that bad.
Special thanks to @mrphilipanderson he's been a real help setting everything up. He even offered to help me install the Navtool and I would have taken him up on that offer if we weren't under shelter in place orders.
I just installed NavTool into my 2013 Acura MDX and got the clipped Android screen on top as well (using Samsung Galaxy S8+). I wonder if there is anything we can do software wise to adjust the presentation area. It seems Apple Carplay using my iPhone 6 with iOS 12.4.7 is able to display the screen without any clipping.

I was incorrect in believing Apply Carplay displayed correctly on the MDX Nav screen. It looks fine on the main carplay screen because they don't have any visual elements near the top of the screen that can help you easily identify that part of the screen isn't displaying, but once you go into some apps, like the podcast app, it becomes apparent that the top of the screen is being clipped. I also used the HDMI feature on Navtool by connecting my laptop, and it was also apparent that the screen was clipped. Too bad there isn't a way to control overscan like Nvidia graphics cards did when connecting to old CRT screens.
I just installed Navtool in my 13 TL MT yesterday so I could help answer some questions.

Hey,
Do you remember what wire was on the harness for the reverse camera? I'm trying to install the Grom VlineV2 and their instruction set does not look like it is for the 2012-14 TL's. They're saying there is a brown wire on the 28pin main harness that goes into the nav system. However the pinout they sent me does not match the pinout on my cables at all.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I just got the Navtool 6.0 for my TL and I got everything hooked up, but am trying to figure out where to put the Navtool box. How did you install it on top of the glovebox?
My original install on my navtool 3.0 box was under the shifter/center console. I don't think it is the best position for it in case you need to do any maintenance on the unit.
I moved it over to inside the glove box - There is plenty of space between the opening in the back of the glovebox to run some fish tape and get it to behind the audio unit. It takes a bit of patience since you're doing it blind, but it is fully possible. I was able to run 3 THICK cables + USB extension + a few thinner cables as well. I'll try to take a pic next time I get to my car.

Hey PhatBoy, was the install difficult? Any issues with your stock speakers/amp/subwoofer working with it? Do you run it wireless carplay? I thought the 6.0 was wireless but didn't know if there was an option for wired also.
