ipod integration
ipod integration
Hi all,
I am brand new to AcuraZine, and have read quite a lot of stuff here before I bought my '07 TL Type-S 6MT.
I love the car and want to integrate my iPod through the NAV. None of the adapters I've read about here will display text(song title, artist) on the NAV screen.
I saw an ad from iCarKits.com on the header of a post and they advertise an adapter from Neo Gateway, the PODHD1GV6, that says that it will do everything through the NAV screen. I couldn't find any references to iCarKits or Neo Gateway in the posts. Does anybody know anything about them?
Thanks

Since, I dont have an ipod/iphone I'm not familiar with all the options out there, but I thought that I read on here that some of the devices allow you to view song titles and what not.
Hoping some one else is gonna chime in

It looks like the iSimple also lets you view text on the NAV screen.
I was viewing a year old thread and didn't see any of the isimples with text display talked about. Anybody put one of these in recently?

This is the 4G forum; you might get more answers on the 3G.
That being said, I was in your same situation with the same identical car. All the aftermarket options I saw that had some kind of OEM integration would only let you use playlists, not select individual tracks, through the NAV.
I ended up getting the Alpine ex-10. This is a box that you can hide in the center console with your iPOD in the upper tray and integrates into the AUX port there. It features a little color screen that I installed in about 15 minutes (without having to drill holes or anything) at the bottom right of my tachometer, hiding all the wires under the plastic paneling. I can control my iPOD with the included remote control that I keep in the ash tray and I am very pleased with the quality considering I only paid about $50.
The color screen is impressive and shows album art and you can change the brightness, menu colors and everything. It definitely does not look out of place in the Acura unless you're one of those guys that insists everything must look like it came from the factory.
This device was primarily marketed for cellphone Bluetooth integration, and it absolutely sucks at that. So much so that it was discontinued and can now be had at a bargain basement price. But if you're like me and all you want is an iPOD solution, this is pretty sweet.

The alpine unit looks pretty good. Crutchfield had one like that with the remote display also. The only thing about them is that being a geezer I need the bigger screen to be able to read stuff without putting on my cheaters!
I didn't realize that I had clicked on the 4th gen and I will watch that in the future.
I think I will probably end up going with the Neo Gateway. I chatted with their tech support guy for a while and it sounded like it would fill the bill.
Thanks for the suggestions.
