iPhone 5 and USB

Hey folks,

I'm a former TL owner considering getting a 2013 SH-AWD Tech Package. I loved the car in the test drive but was slightly put off by the lack of iPhone connectivity found in the latest BMW's and Lexus'. The sales guy seemed a bit clueless so perhaps you guys can help me out.

So I know that you can't get track listing over BT-Audio and it seems that as of iOS 6 it wont even show the song currently playing. But will it work over a USB lightning cable? Would I need to use a lightning adapter to a 30 pin?

Thanks!

My iPhone 5 works well in my 2010 TL Base. The current song does show over the lighting cable but not over BT. It's not perfect but it does work.

Will it let me list through all my music? I don't like fumbling with the phone while driving.

Yep, you can see the song info while driving. Not sure about playlists as I'm the idiot that fumbles with his phone while driving.

Sorry my mistake, i thought that BT showed the song info but it doesn't. It just states it's BT audio playing.

No worries, just a bit confused though. When you're connected with the lightning cable you can see your whole library, correct?

When you are connected lightning cable you see everything including album artwork on the navi if you have the "audio" page up.

..Roger that.....have Iphone5 with latest IOS, and over the lightning cable you have complete control of the playlists, what track is playing, searching, album art etc....you never have to touch the phone.....even siri works over the speakers and build in MIC on the center console.....very sweet....

Yep, everything works as it should over USB. Bluetooth is a bit limited but the music plays well.

My iphone 5 and my 2007 TL must be missing something.
I plug the lightening cable into phone but where does the USB plug to car. I have a USB connector in console but I have been told it is one direction and it charges only will not play my tunes.
Is there something I have to buy and install to be able to just plug up USB and rock out?

Does the track info only work if you're the apple music app? Or does it work with any audio app that is currently being used? Just wondering as I may be switching back from a Galaxy phone. The galaxy currently shows track info over BT for various audio apps.

You were given bad information. The USB connector in the console connects your iPhone to the audio system and the sound is superior to Bluetooth IMHO.

Got my iPhone 5s. No info over Bluetooth as already stated in this thread. I also don't get audio or info via the lightning cable. I'm using google play now for streaming. The head unit shows the proper track numbers, but no title, info or more importantly audio. I get audio over bt, just no info. Do I have to use the built in music app to get song info when using the USB cable? If so, that sucks as I don't download music anymore since you can stream everything with MOG, google play music, spotify, etc.
