HD Radio

I did a search and can't find it. Was wondering why Acura didn't make HD radio an option? Acura tries to be a technological innovator but something simple as an HD radio option would have been nice.

It's very simple. HD radio is locational, each city varies, and it needs a decoder for the HD signal, which is not that much clearer than regular FM. XM is a solid and safe bet as it's Satellite and works anywhere as long as you have line of sight with the birds.

I really doubt that. There is zero talk on XM84. I mean zero, except for the station tags. It just depends on your genre. The 80's channel is chatted up a bit with Richard Blade and his lunch set.

by that logic, they should drop the AM/ FM radio receiver.

HD radio sounds much better than FM, definitely better than XM. Personally, I only listen to my iPhone in the car.

Ever think that Acura has a contract with XM that might not allow HD in their cars? Why would XM want cars fit up with free 'HD' radio? They would get fewer people buying contracts. I would not doubt that XM somehow subsidizes the radio -- they have a lot to gain from getting their system in new cars... just a thought...

You might be right, but BMW has an option for HD radio, but BMW was on sirus before the merger so that may be a factor.

I don't think anyone is really buying the HD radios. If you notice, currently BMW is having to give away the HD radio when you spec the car with an iPhone connection so perhaps HD is not really taking off. I know we do have HD stations in both San Diego and LA.

That might be true, but I don't see how HD radio competes with XM anymore than regular FM radio does. It's the same broadcast content, just encoded digitally.

I don't think XM and HD radio are battling each other at all out there, let alone in the TL. I deal with AV stuff every day, and new AV receivers are compatible for HD radio and XM/Sirius, so let's say Denon amp's give you all the options. A contract with one, should not affect the installation of another? The whole purpose of the tech package is integration. My take is that HD radio is just not popular, as XM/Sirius which already has a catchy name and people know about it. Out of 149 clients of mine, two have asked about HD radio on their receivers, and those clients are older than 60! FM radio, HD or not, is still lame.

To flip the coin, if they remove FM/AM receivers in TL's, you'd really be screwed as XM/Sirius is still on the chopping block for bankruptcy.

You can always stream services like Pandora, Last.fm and Slacker via Bluetooth Audio over a BlackBerry also.

Works like a charm!

I just hate how everything has coined the term HD, there is nothing High Definition about HD radio, it's digital...period. Marketers must think that will bring in some lesser educated people thinking it's better than it really is, granted it is better than regular FM, but by comparision it's not as drastic of a difference in the old analog tv signal versues REAL HD signals to an HD set...may think they will try and sway some consumers with the HD tag ??? Have you guys seen that stupid commercial for those cheap sunglasses that they advertise as HD sunglasses on tv...really lame!?

So true skyfox, infact, it's all about the antenna for any FM reception, HD or not. IMO the only cool thing about HD radio on a receiver is that you get a read out of the station, ID, and song title and artist. Kinda cool for the dorks who don't known what the heck they're listening to? Even if the TL had HD radio, I don't think I'd be listening to it anyways, I can't stand commercial radio. The programming sucks ass with todays lame as music. I'm gonna be screwed if XM goes down. After that, it will be iPod forever.

Not that i'm going to get but I guess an inexpensive way to get HD radio is to get the new Zune HD. Plug it in and there you go, hopefully should work, not sure how the controls would be if it would have to be controlled by the Zune or the TL.

You can buy one of these and plug it in your car.

Or just get Zune HD or iPhone.

The main attraction about HD Radio is that it's FREE...

You can plug in a receiver through the Aux port in the console. or through the antenna port.

What we really need is a portable HD Radio that is also a WiFi Web Radio that can record from those sources in it's built-in memory or connected to a USB memory stick...

If you know of one let me know!
