Aftermarket Sub

Has anyone hooked up an aftermarket sub to a tech package? Can you pull the signal off of the stock sub?

Probably still have to run a power and remote wire and disconnect the stock sub?

Any insight would be great!

Thanks!
Colin

Talked to an aftermarket stereo shop today. They said it would be no problem and you can still use the sub control out of the deck.

Yea..

I would imagine you can just splice the signal from the OEM sub, get an LOC, run an AUX cable to your amp... run power & ground, and link the remote wire to the ACC fuse in the driver side fuse box

depends on what you all want done.

Having a car wired for a sub usually costs around $80 here in Canada. Prolly only $50-$60 for you guys

Wiring kit + labor = usually like $125 in the states

Even if you DIY, good wiring kit, in-line fuse or circuit breaker, LOC = $50-70

I have replaced the stock sub with two 10" rockford's and punch amp to run the sub. They just ran the HI/Low converter in the rear deck and it sounds great I couldnt stand the distortion on factory at the high volumes other than that i think factory is good system i will probably replace all speakers at some point but for now its good. Im just waiting for nav tool to be plug and play for the video.

so you had to take a hi/low converter from the deck and not the sub output? Can you still use the sub control on the deck?

They took the sub output and hooked up the HI/Low from there. Yes i can control sub output from deck , but i also got a bass know to make minor adjustments outside of deck works great

that's fantastic news!

If you're just using a hi/low pass converter, but still pulling from the deck, I'm curious, does the sub get consistently louder the higher you turn the volume? Or does it scale it back a little when you turn the volume all the way up?

Sorry, I didn't understand the last part though:
but i also got a bass know to make minor adjustments outside of deck works great

i bought a hi low converter for like 25 bucks. i had to cut the audio cables to the stock sub. but i left room so if i want to reconnect it i have enough wire to reconnect it.

i ran the cables that normally go to the stock sub to the high low convert that converts it to a low level rca connection. connected that to a 1000 watt alpine amp to 2 jw3 subs.

and you still get to use the sub control which is cool. i left the stock sub in the whole, i didnt want to have to remove it.

when you turn up the volume it turns up the aftermarket sub with it. you can also adjust the hi low converter to tweak it to how much bass you like.

i think if you put an aftermarket speaker to the stock amp, its not going to sound much better.
