Lightbulb Fountain of Hi-Resolution Music

Hello to all of you who did found and are excited about this extraordinary feature in our cars, the problem is getting the titles. Fortunately, we are not alone, even when there are just a few DVD-Audio titles, there are others in SACD and 180g Vinyl, check this page 24bit96khz.org here you can download music in high resolution, much of them are 2 channels but at least they are 96 khz 24 bit, I warn you, it's not easy but you can convert this files to DVD-A with a tool called "discWelder Chrome" from the company Minnetonka, google it, i have it if you need it, just tell me how can I send it to you.

First you need to download the Hi-Resolution Music from somewhere, the page i said before is a good source but not the only one, you can try to search for "96khz" or "vinyl-rip" or "24bit" or whatever like that. Most of the contents are found in FLAC format, you have to convert it to WAV, google it and you will find how-to's. If you need any further help dont hesitate on asking me, I'will be gladly helping anyone who wants to enjoy good music in the Acura.

After you get the WAV files, open discWelder and start adding the files to the Group, i'm sure that if you drive an acura you will figure out how to add the files to the disc.

-----

Now... someone asked if you can get the audio from a DVD Video to play in the car, the answer is YES, you can, I have done that, it sounds good but let me tell you DVD-Video discs doesn't have the same fidelity as DVD Audio discs, I'm not sure if they are even better than regular CD's, the only winning is the surround sound. This is a much more complicated process, I'll give you some tips and if you need any more information, pelase ask.

Rip Audio with DVD Audio Extractor

This will give you Two and Four channel WAV Files, you need to split them into Single Channel WAV Files, you will end with 6 files for each song

Split them with WAVE Wizard

Then you can add the files to each channel on discWelder but they will be huge files, so probably they wont fit on a single DVD. That's why they invented MLP encoding, MLP is some kind of lossless packaging for audio and allows you to fit more audio in the same space.

Convert them to MLP with SurCode MLP

To convert them you will also need the Six mono wav files and then you will get a single MLP six-channel file.

If you add a single channel wav, the discWelder will open 5 new slots to add audio files, BE CAREFUL to add the Correct channels in the correct places because then you will end with a subwoofer signal playing in your center speaker. the same when converting it to MLP, if you add a multichannel MLP, it will not ask you for any more files as it knows the file is multichannel, bla bla bla.

--------

I hope this help someone, you have the tools and the source of music that took me months of research.

Sorry about my english, i'm mexican.

Thank you.

Luis

So far, I only have Marvin Gaye - Collection; But thinking of getting more and more, since I love the quality that DVD-A delivers.

it makes me sick that the Led Zeppelin DVD-A (how the west was won) was limited edition and now on amazon and ebay, the price is ridiculous.

and it seems like there are currently more sacd discs than dvd-a...wish the ELS system could have an sacd option...

Steven,

Do your John Mayer dualdiscs work in the 4g TL? I looked at one in a store and it said "DVD video" only. I have seen conflicting info on this, so I thought I would get your opinion.

Hybrid SACDs work too correct?

Thanks for your help!

Hybrid SACDs? Do you mean enhanced CDs? To obad the players don't play SACD as well... my Dark Side of The Moon and other SACDs would love to play in my car

iu, unfortunately, they will not play in the TL's. They've got to be DVD Audio discs. And, as Stew said, SACD's will not play either. DVD Audio discs sound the sam as SACD's. Both are produced with the same high quality parameters. I like the DVD Audio discs better because you get video extras with DVD Audio discs. I play them on my 7.1 surround sound system at home....amazing!

I've been rolling my own with the "Fountain of Hi-Resolution Music" post a few up from this. That has turned the worthless DVD-A option into quite the music stage. Many thanks to luiscon14 for his post.

What a great resource! Thanks to all for posting their catalogs. One to add -- DOES NOT play in the car -- Queen, A Night at the Opera (30th Anniversary Edition, CD + DVD)

Anybody know what's up with that? And what's up with a single disc player in a TL? I'd expect that in a Civic bought off the lot, but in a TL? Sometimes Honda baffles me.
I'll report here that A Night at the Opera - 30th Anniversary Edition DOES NOT play in my 3G (2008 TL). The DVD disc is brand new and after trying to read the disk, the message FORMAT comes up on the display, then ejects the disk. I tried inserting the disk a few times, but no luck.

Guys, they just release Moving Pictures by Rush again in DVD Audio and BluRay. Obviously the BluRay won't play in our cars, but the DVD Audio sounds terrrific.

You guys are missing two very important albums:

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral (DualDisc)
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth (DualDisc)

If you haven't heard these with the TL's DVD-A system you are really missing out.

DVD-A Discs

I agree with Stew and Ken...Amazon and Ebay are my avenues. Best Buy also has them but I've never found titles that I like. Amazon is interesting b/c sometimes you can find a used copy from a seller that is 50% off anywhere else and in my experience, if you don't jump on it, it's gone the same week you notice it. As an aside, if you know anyone wanting a Hootie and Blowfish (Cracked Rear View) and/or Beatles (Love) DVD-A disc, I have them for sale. I just have 2 copies...both sound great and the reviews will attest to that.

Only catch is that you have to buy the "set"/$99/Amazon
4 cd's; 2 lp's, & 1 DVD/A
Wish I could just purchase the DVD/A
Great for the Acura ELS, & home stereo!

ELS = Elliot Scheiner

Almost every album in DVD-A format sounds amazing, but I've found the best sounding are the ones mixed and produced by the same designer of the ELS audio system, (Elliot Schener).

Queen - A Night at the Opera
Elton John: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Eagles - Hotel California
Steely Dan - Gaucho
Steely Dan - Two Against Nature (DVD-Audio)
Steely Dan - Two Against Nature (DVD)
Steely Dan - Everything Must Go
Donald Fagen - Nightfly
Donald Fagen - Kamakiriad
Donald Fagen - Morph the Cat
REM - Document
REM - Green
REM - Out of Time
REM - Automatic for the People
REM - Monster
REM - New Adventures in Hi Fi
REM - Up
REM - Reveal
REM - In Time (Best of)
REM - Around the Sun
Porcupine Tree - In Absentina
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
Foo Fighters - Skin and Bones
NIN - Beside You In Time
Eagles - Hell Freezes Over
Beck - Sea Change

Also "Queen - The Game" sounds amazing (not from elliot), it is worth every penny in my opinion.

Amazon and ebay are the safest places to buy, but be aware sometimes people confuse Music DVD-Video with DVD-Audio, I recommend you to re-check if the album exists in DVD-A format.

Sources

Nobody so far has mentioned Elusive Disc as a source for DVD-As. They're worth a look.

Also, I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned Adobeman and his "Adobinizer" program. It turns 2 channel CD WAV tracks into 5.1 that you can burn with DVD-Audio Solo or similar software. It's artificial, but it works well.

Here's the link:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=Adobinizer

I imagine that Elliott Scheiner hovered over every millisecond of Morph the Cat, and the Martins over Love, with the idea that their best incarnation would be the 5.1, but you can't tell me that a London Symphony track originally recorded in 1961 and remastered into 5.1 forty years later wasn't just fed through some kind of preset program, maybe somewhat more sophisticated than the Adobinizer, but still a synthetic output.

DVD-A registry

There is this page http://dvd-a.info/

They list allllll (95%) of the dvd audio titles available and other multichannel formas.

From Foo Fighters they list:

In Your Honor (DUALDISC)
One by One (DVD-Audio)

be advised that some Dualdiscs are just a CD on one side and a DVD-Video on the oter side, all of the Sony label Dualdiscs are DVD-Video on the other side because SACD is the rival of the hi-fi market. Foo Fighters albums are listed as RCA label so you have a chance.

The problem is not only if they exist, the problem is that 99% of the titles are Out Of Print, so you need to find if someone is selling exactly the album you want, and the probability trend to zero.

As always, anything else i can help you, i'll be glad to do it.

Luis

DVD-Audio and DTS

Posted another thread but should have posted here. Still a newbie.
Before I spend a lot on DVD-A discs. Can someone tell me if DTS discs also play in surround sound or should I just look for the DTS Audio discs.

Thanks,

SDL, grab anything you can find! I've had decent luck with Amazon lately. But now, since the format is really not being done anymore, the discs are pricey. Rush just came out with a new 5.1 disc for their Moving Pictures CD, but that's the only new disc I've heard of in a long time.
