Smile DTS Surround Music

Anyone have a recommendation for DTS Surround music for my 2012 Acura TL (tech package) audio system? I have Sting's but would like to buy more. Although the music is really nice with the cd I was not able to copy it to the hd. I can only assume the cd is protected; disappointing. I was hoping not to keep CDs in the car. If anyone has any input I would appreciate it.

You'll need to rip the CD in order to copy the music.

Do a search on the internet. There are lots of info teaching you how to do it.

Not likely....the Steely Dan DTS discs are terrific too.

The HDD System will only rip regular RedBox CD. It will not rip the multichannel formats like DVD Audio or DTS.

Thanks AudiophileJ, maybe it's only certain DTS that won't rip. Out of shear curiosity I bought the Transformer CD (DTS) sound track and it ripped to the HDD. That said I'm in no way an audiophile, so maybe I don't understand. The only reason I believe the CD to be DTS is because it's on the CD case. If you can help me with anymore information I'm all ears.

Try The Eagles: Hell Freezes Over; 7 Bridges Road is AMAZING!
Moody Blues: Days of Future Passed
My 2 favorite DTS discs
BTW: i also have a 2012 TL/SH AWD/Tech, & noticed thaqt there are 2 speakers in the back doors; never noticed that in my '05, or '09 TL's
Maybe that's why I feel the 2012 ELS is superior, to it's predecessors.

Thanks CPR, I will check the music out. How do you like the AWD? The sound systems in these TL is awesome!

Hi Steve , just a quick question. I found the Toy Matinee DTS music but it's a DVD will it work in my TL? If not what type of disc is appropriate?

Thanks

SH AWD is like ELS; AWESOME!
Had an '09, & '05 TL FWD
Live in NYC; roads suck! therefore, the ride is a bit stiff
On the highway, it rocks; along with the music; handling is infinitely better on wet or dry roads
BTW: If you like Reggae; try Eric Clapton's/There's One in Every Crowd/DTS
Enjoy!

Some DTS audio CDs have separate audio tracks one for Multi Channel DTS and one for two channel audio. Perhaps it can differentiate between the two and rip the CD track. However I could be wrong. I tried to have it rip a DVD A and it would not. I will try a DTS and see what happens.

Thanks AudiophileJ, I'm learning as I go lol. It's odd that I was able to burn one DTS to the Acura HDD but not another (Sting). I surmised that there are different protections on the CDs. I haven't, but will try and burn the Sting on my computer and see what happens.

I know what you mean CD about roads. Here in LA where we have sunny dry weather 9 months of the year they still don't fix the roads lol. Reggae is fun music I think I will check it out.

Toy Matinee will work in the car-amazing disc!

Grab that Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" disc too. 7 Bridges Road IS amazing. If you listed to each individual speaker (in a 5.1 surround sound home setup), you'll hear one member of the Eagles out of each speaker.....it's pretty damn incredible.

Also, in each post, there are 3 icons in the lower right hand corner. The middle icon is a multi-quote button. It allows you to respond to multiple people in a single response!

Thanks Steve. While searching for the Toy Matinee people are advertising both DTS CD and DVD. I would assume either would work or people are confusing the two terms. If this is not the case is one preferred over the other? I can't wait to get my hands on it and the Eagles too. I have a nice 5.1 surround system in my home so it's just another great excuse to buy them both lol. Also, thanks for the tip about the icons, I think I need to find the tutorial for this site lol, is there one?

Steve I just read the primer for DVD-A and now understand the difference between CD and DVD, especially DVD-A. Wow, now I really can't wait to get the DVD-A music! Thanks for your help and patience and for tis great site.

Steve if you see this let me know if this is the correct DVD for Toy Mantinee. I found this on eBay.

It is DTS Audio DVD, 20 Bit 5.1 Channel. Not DVD video.

That's the one! You always want a DVD Audio or a DTS disc. Skip the DVD Video's.

Steve Miller Band has a few DVD audio discs. I HIGHLY recommend this one:

Amazon Amazon

Expensive, but worth it. Look around, you may be able to get it cheaper. I found mine on eBay for $25.

Thanks Ken1997TL, I will check it out. I just can't believe how this type of music changes the whole listening experience. I'm wondering I'd Audio DVDs are still being produced today, it seems they are all several years old. I hope it's not a dead or dying art.

^^^ No, they are not being mass produced anymore. This format is basically dead. Every once in a while, you'll see a group or artist put out an album in 5.1, but they are few and far between.

That Steve Miller disc is VERY expensive....

I found Aomeba Misic here in LA (Hollywood), carries the DVD-A. That a where I got the Eagles DVD, it is in perfect (used)condition; spent 14.99, not too bad. I'm going this weekend to "look around", maybe I'll find others. I found a list of DVD Audio titles on the net, so that will help.

Forgot to mention; Paul McCartney's/Band on the Run/DTS/5.1
Decent quality; hard to find; I think it's out of print
BTW: there are 2 versions of this disc; yellow, & purple labels
If you can find it, get the yellow one; for some oddball reason the purple label,
skips the 1st few seconds of song one; weird

It's great to see all the input on music. I have to tell you though I read reviews for a DVD Audio with a separate CD included for the Flaming Lips and boy this is not for me lol. I should have known by the name. I need to use more discretion I guess. One of my favorites is the Blue Man group, excellent!

One dvd audio that is still available, inexpensive, and amazingly awesome is Beatles Love. amazon has a two disc combo pack, which includes a dvd audio and a cd for $18.56. This music was all remixed in 2006. i promise if even like the Beatles your hair will stand up on your arms when u hear this.
but they only have 2 more copies available, so act quickly!!!!

When searching for DVD-Audio on Amazon I came across "Brothers in Arms" 20th Anniversary Edition by Dire Straits. Description says: Hybrid SACD-DSD format. Would that play on the TL sound system with 5.1 effects?

This is one of my biggest disappointments. Actually, I was surprised and disappointed overall with how clunky the iPod/iPhone integration is, too.

When I get a little time, I'm going to try converting some of my FLACs into DVDA.

Buy the DVD/A; it has a CD flipside
Probably, one of the top 2 or 3 surround discs, you'll EVER hear
And, it'll play great on the Acura ELS system

Do not mean to highjack this thread but no problem Steve, it's too nice to have sitting around so perhaps others will make better use of it.

Laws, if it's written onto the disc, the car will read it. Many discs do not have this information written onto the disc.

Dat' true, Mugszy! It's a very unique disc that demonstrates the 5.1 surround sound very well.
