Does The '09 Nav System Do Text To Speech?

That is, does it announce "turn left on Henry St" rather than "turn left in a quarter of a mile?"

Thanks in advance for your answers.

This is a funny question, because I just noticed the other day that when in route to a destination, the prompt said exit route 48, instead of the street name. I had never noticed that this street was actually route 48 before? However, it does not say turn left at a specific street name for me.

It was reading an email for me so I don't see why not.

The NAV system does do text-to-speech but the default setting is off. To change it:

Select Set Up from Info screen. Select Other tab. Select Routing and Guidance. Select Street Name Guidance. On.

I'm confused, as usual. I'll test it tonight. I got mine saying the right exit, but it chooses route over the actual street name. So your saying this will change it or is it regional and depends on the map GPS?

Absolutely. It is hilarious listening to it try to pronounce the names of songs on your iPod, or exotic street names.

I eventually turned it off on the settings because it reads the title of every selection on all the menus, which becomes annoying when you are listening to music.

It does butcher many names. Especially when I'm using bluetooth. My asian friends names are... ridiculously funny.

Ah, that's why I never realized it does read text, I turned it off the first day I had the car! LOL.

Text to speech is completely separate from the other voice system. FSSIG already explained how to turn it on.

Ok, I seem to be missing the "Street Name Guidance" option after selecting Set Up from Info screen, then selecting Other tab, then selecting Routing and Guidance -- the only things under that are Rerouting, Unverified Area Routing, Edit Avoid Area, Edit Waypoint Search Area, and Guidance Mode.

System/Device Information shows Database 7.70 and Software 1.80 on my 09 TL SH-AWD Tech.

"Street Name Guidance" is missing on mine too. A screenshot in the manual clearly shows the option, however it's not described in the manual text. Same 7.70, 1.80, and 09 AWD Tech as ManbirPrihar. A Canadian model thing?

For those who have the "Street Name Guidance" option, can you post the Database and Software versions of your navigation system?
