Confusion on the USB connecton

Reading through the manual here and on both pages 264 and 356 it clearly states:
Do not use a device such as a
card reader or hard drive as the
device or your files may be
damaged.

However, if you venture on over to Acura's website and click the Interactive Show Room Link you'll see that they advertise that you can use the USB connection to play music from a "flash drive or self powered USB hard drive."

Has anyone tried a self powered HD yet? Does this work?

Anyone?

I guess I'll have to snag my buddies WD Passport HD from work one night and try it out....

Again, yes we know that thumb/flash drives work... however there seems to be contradicting verbiage whether or not "self powered USB hard drives" will work...

The answer I see it is: it doesn't matter. Thumbdrives are pretty clumsy with the NAV...so go for an IPOD with 120GB if you need big data...
