Anyone know the bit rate when ripped to the HD
Wow, I didn't know it used that low of a bitrate to rip the CDs.
When I was test driving the TL, I put in a Focal Demo CD to listen to the ELS and after I got back to the dealer, I had time to play around with the audio system.
There were 2 recorded tracks in the HDD, and I thought it sounded identical to the original CD.
I must have been paying not enough attention.

Does anyone know if the the 2011s allow you to change the bit rate from 128 kbs to something higher when copying to the HDD?
What is the point of such a great audio system, when it can only play highly compressed audio files from the HDD?
This is a triumph of marketing over engineering, so the marketing collateral can claim a 3,600 song capacity, even though those songs are at bit rate unworthy of such a system.

I did not take the time to look in the manual for the actual bitrate, but I am not surprised it is 128: I noticed that some of my CDs sound way better when played through an iPod (I rip the files using lame --preset standard, which is pretty good but not crazy high bitrates) v. the files ripped to the HDD.

This is reason enough not to rip to the HDD, but I actually gave up when I did the math and realized I'd be stuck ripping discs for days and days and since a lot of my discs are obscure and can't be found in the CDDB, it would be way too time consuming to manually set all the meta data for each track on all those albums (it takes about 40 minutes to do one album). So that is all completely unacceptable. Ideally I'd just be able to upload from USB to the HDD and not being able to really bugs me. So now it's either USB or more likely just off my phone (Pandora or through the media player). If you are at least using Bluetooth you can still advance tracks with the steering wheel controls.
