Aftermarket Bluetooth Audio

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but there were too many search results on Bluetooth to weed through....

I just bought a 2011 Acura TL and just realized it only has bluetooth for phone not audio. What brand(s) of aftermarket bluetooth modules do you guys recommend? I'm hoping there is an auxiliary port to plug in to as I don't want to use an RF modulator. Here is one I found after a quick search: Milennia MIL-BTREC Bluetooth® adapter at Crutchfield.com

Unless they changed it in 2012, my 2013 most definitely does bluetooth audio.

I bought a 2011, not a 2012.

Okay, so my 2011 will do Bluetooth audio streaming, but apparently only for certain phones. I checked the Acura handsfreelink website and of course my phone is not listed. What's up with that? I thought Bluetooth was a universal protocol. I'm hoping that maybe it just won't work for phone calls but will work for streaming audio.

Fully realize that, I don't think they changed the Bluetooth between the two years.

If you have the Tech package, you press the HDD/AUX button a few times until it kicks over to Bluetooth Audio. It isn't phone dependent.

I have a base 2012 TL and I'm able to play music from my phone. I would give it a try. maybe a phone update fixed it to where you can. Like MuffinMan mention, just hit "aux" button until you see "no bluetooth audio" come up. Just make sure your handsfreelink is setup first.

I'll give it a try. I'm hoping that Acura's list is limited to those phones that have fully functionality with the steering wheel controls, but streaming audio works with any phone. I'll find out soon enough.

I'm not familiar with the list you're referencing, but I've got a Galaxy S5 that works fine. My girlfriend's iPhone 6s works just fine as well.

I have a iphone 6 plus and it works. I'm able to control my tracks from my steering too. I found the link for phone compatibility and it looks out dated HandsFreeLink | Acura.com. For Apple phones, it only goes up to iphone 5s.

^ That is the link I am referring to. It categorizes the phones based on carrier (not sure why). I have Virgin Mobile and an LG Volt phone. I was thinking of getting a Galaxy S3 or S4, but there is only one Samsung phone listed. I'm picking the vehicle up tomorrow so I'll give it a shot with my LG and let you know how it goes.

Hands-free link works with my LG Volt so evidently Acura's list is outdated. Sweet!

...so for anyone that is wondering, yes, you can stream bluetooth audio with your 2011 TL non-tech even if your phone isn't listed on Acura's website and even though the quickstart manual says "tech model" beside bluetooth pairing. Just setup your phone following the audio prompts, hit the AUX button, and you should be good to go.
