'12 Tech Package, iPod play order

Everything is sorted by title... is there a way to play/sort things by track order? Do I have to make a playlist for every single album?

Is your question "how do I play an album in its original track order?" No, AFAIK. If you search by artist, the albums will be displayed, and the tracks for each album in their original order. That's how it works for me, at least.

yeah it plays them in alphabetic order instead of track order

Sucks doesn't it? Yeah - got annoying so I just quit fooling with it.

I keep hoping that eventually the manufacturers might figure out that we'd all be pretty thrilled if instead of having some complex navigation system with buried menus and features that kind of work like you want, if they just stuck a large touchscreen on the dash that became a monitor for our smartphones, and tied them into a high quality sound system - they'd save a bundle on production costs.

You can use various music management programs such as Media Monkey to rename your music files to include track number as the first element in the file name. Then an alphabetic sort of the tracks ends up in original disc order. All my iPod music files have been created using this format and they all play in proper order on my TL.

the 2009 TL did't do this, this seems to be new with the 2012. I just "upgraded" from a 2009 TL SH-AWD w/tech package to a 2012 TL SH-AWD w/Adv package. This new "feature" (more properly called a bug) is really annoying me as I'm very used to searching by artist then picking the album I want to listen to. By the way, if you search by Album then the songs are listed correctly by track number, not alphabetical by name. Searching by album seems to be the only way to get this though, searching by artist or genre doesn't sort the songs properly, by track number.

Brechbt,

I downloaded Media Monkey and am think that I've figured out how to tag each track with the track# first. Once that is done, however, how do I transfer everything back to iTunes? When I go to iTunes and try to play a track it makes me search the HD and find it.

Please advise. Thanks

Unfortunately, if you want to continue using iTunes, you will have to re-add the files to the library (after deleting the old ones). This will of course mean that you lose any playlists / play counts etc. I see the following options:

1. Do one time mass cleanup and start from scratch.
2. Try changing just the Title tag and not the file name. See if iTunes still cannot recognize the file. If it recognizes it fine, then you are good. If you then want the file name to be same as title, then you can do a reorg of files from within iTunes options. All this will hopefully preserve your playlists etc.

mp3tag is another very good software for tagging etc.

IRage, as sbq pointed out above, the sort by track name is primarily a problem when you search by artist and then select an album that way. If you search by album or if you use HFL to tell the car to play a particular album, the tracks are sorted by track #, assuming that you have track numbers in your tags. Have you tried playing an album that way? Have you confirmed that your music library has tags with track #'s in them?

I set up a play list on my ipod and brought it up in the audio menu. When using my play list it plays in order.
