Also no AAC support? That's not a biggie I guess, but that also seems like it'd be an easy feature to add.
I've wondered too about MP3s on DVD. I wonder if there are some licensing issues with AAC?

More than likely it's a Toshiba HDD for automobile applications. I'm an EE and worked previous at a storage networking company, Toshiba made very good rugged HDD for more severe environments.

Looked at the latest spec's at Honda Digital News and saw that there is no HD Radio either on the standard or with the Technology packages.

I'm not sure how how things are affected by the XM Sirus merger, but I recall reading that Honda had/has a stake in XM. They probably don't want HD to compete with it.

I figured that, Honda and GM put ~$100M into XM a few years ago, but none the less I was slightly disappointed HD is not on the receiver. In MD there are some really decent HD channels.

Actually the 4G manual shows MP3/WAV support on DVD if I read it correctly on page 306, says it can support up to 3500 songs on a DVD.

With the new feature of the car ripping the disc when you put it in, what format does it store the music in? Just MP3 or will I be able to choose?

Never mind. Apparently it's MP3 format.

The 4G does support MP3's on DVD disks? Kudos to Acura for adding that! Think I saw a link somewhere for an online version of the manual. I'll have to take a look at it. I am curious how some things might work playing a MP3 on DVD....like fast forwarding though a long MP3 (a couple hour recorded talk show for instance)

On Autoline Detroit John talks to Mel Karmazin about Sirius XM.
http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/show/1239?play

As I pointed out in the "What Nav version comes with 09 TL" thread "it'd be cool if [navi] updates could be delivered via the Sirius XM radio" for an annual or monthly fee.

Well in the "Watch Extra" section John talks to Mel about "telematics" (delivering data to cars). Mel says "we are doing things with Honda".....sounds to me like navi data updates via Sirius XM is a VERY real possibility.

Do you think they stole that idea from me? haha

Hey, the weather radar in the car was my idea....here is my post on 2/16/03
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/submit-your-gps-ideas-honda-531556/
...I even said it should be delivered via XM

I am going to call Acura first thing monday morning and see how I can get paid these great ideas

Where is the definitive answer about the HDD audio format for the new TL's? If they spent the money to hire Elliot Schreiner and claim that the TL has a state of the art music reproduction system, they wouldn't use the Mpeg-3 as a base audio format.

Compressed audio is like sitting in the Coliseum in Rome with one eye covered. Your missing a bunch of important stuff!!!

Hey, I hear you!
The whole compressed music world does not do justice to the artist. HOWEVER, if your into the best possible sound;

1) DVD-A is supported in the TL...there isnt too many disks available for purchase, unfortunately.

2) The 8Gb (or larger) memory stick with WAV files should give you the best possible CD reproduction. (ie no spinning disk noise issues, and no compression issues).

3) The Ipod USB connection would be next in the 'quality' order. The Ipod, of course, supports the WAV (or other uncompressed formats as well) format, the only deal here is that the DAC in the Ipod is only good, not great.

The options are there in the new TL....you gotta be happy! Remember this isnt a car that cost 70K, its under 40K south of the border and under 50K north of the border. Myself, I think I will be ordering a couple of DVD-A's just to see how it sounds...maybe the DEMO DVD-A still comes with each ELS system!?!?!?!

cheers all......LC
