Would you buy a 1st year TLX or a second year?
I'd love to get a new car soon but I never like buying the first production year of any car. I wish they had come out with a new TLX this year just for the sake of getting a 2nd year TLX next October. For the sake of this poll, I'll assume I'll like the TLX and I truly do hope I do.
PS. No need to tell me all the other possible poll choices I could have listed (e.g. I'm not interested in a new car, I have no money, I'm in a coma, I'm a house cat and can't get a driver's license, I'm waiting for Acura to makes their own version of an El Camino...). I listed the responses I was curious about. If you didn't fit one of these 3 categories, you weren't in the group I was curious about.

For me it's neither of the three options. Already have a 2013 TL SH-AWD and I generally keep a car for at least four years. I may get it once the mid cycle refresh happens however since there may be a hybrid/sport-hybrid option as well by then.

Not looking to get a new car anytime soon as I have a 2013 6MT, but I wouldn't be hesitant to buy a first year TLX. It is the last car in Acura's lineup to get a refresh based on their new design language. Hoping that the TLX brings quite a bit of new or refreshed features to the Acura lineup, we still can expect it will be heavily based on new technology in the MDX, RDX and RLX thus has been properly tested. Sure there may be some little issues that arise, but Acura/Honda is not exactly known for releasing poor first year cars.
One exception would be if they launched with some sort of hybrid or new AWD with rear electric motors as seen on the NSX. I would still take the gamble with faith that Acura will make it right.

I don't mind buying a first year model but if I do, I tend to buy vehicles that were built towards the end of the first year cycle. Sometimes they'll fix any minor issues within the current year production.

I have owned a 04 TL and 09 TL, both first year early in the build cars and both were great. The 04 had a ton of squeaks and rattles in back deck they eventually foxed, but mechanically both were flawless! I wouldnot have any reservations buying the first year, unfortunately I have given up on Acura for now, although the gf is about to trade her 11 TSX Tech for a 14 RDX AWD Tech.

I've bought a first year model before. Had it for years no problems. But that was before all the high tech features.
Would consider the TLX but I just bought a 2013 TL. I'm sure I would lose a lot of money if I made the switch too soon. Hope it's not too tempting LOL....
Anyone know if the TLX comes with a MT? Curious what the price point will be as well.

being at the dealership this morning for some warranty stuff, i ALMOST have given up on Acura. I was looking at all the RLXs and new MDXs on the lot and was really unimpressed...but I am eagerly awaiting how the new TLX will look like
(i'll wait till the 2nd year, though)

I've got one of, if not the oldest, 3G's on this forum, and I bought it the month after it was released, I think. But with all the gadgetry being dumped into cars nowadays, I'm kind of leary of getting a 1st-year TLX. That being said, I'd probably get one if it doesn't look like a ... well, if it doesn't look bad. And that's simply because every other car I've been waiting on has had issues (ATS and Q50) and I'm still waffling on possibly getting an IS 350. Had the Q50 not been having so many issues with its infotainment system, I'd probably be in one by now.
I guess what I'm saying is, I'm screwed.

I voted for "I have given up" because I have no idea what the TLX will look like. I am getting frustrated with the lack of hints or spy shots. The only thing we have to go with is the styling of the RLX which is not overly exciting....not horrible but not amazing. They have removed the dual exhausts, they are making the interior more bland and cheapening the material.....its hard to feel excited about the TLX....

^^^ I don't really buy the "2nd year will solve the bugs"....my 2012 TL is still having the same problem the 2009 TL had (sunroof tick tick)....and the 2014 RDX and ILX still have the rear shock thud in the suspension. I would rather buy the car when its new and get the fresh model and let the warranty deal with the issues.
I will say this, Acura is still one of the best company when it comes to reliability and I still would trust them on a new year model. My 2009 TSX and 2013 RDX have had no serious issues, just little minor adjustments, so no reason to believe the TLX would be worse.
That being said, Acura has had VERY LITTLE time to work on the TLX so maybe they will have less time to solve the problems before release....*Being sarcastic*

Agree. 1st year or 2nd year doesn't make much of a difference.
Unless the factory floor can implement minor "running production changes", otherwise major design/system flaws will have to wait till the MMC (mid model cycle) refresh which will be 2.5 years later.

I would be open to first year model- especially if it's more 3g in size/looks than 4g. The choices could be broadened- how about 'Don't know until I see the car' as a choice?

The RLX exterior is so offensively bland that I don't have much hope for the TLX.

Since the exterior of the Acura's has been "polarizing" (ahem, euphemism for poor acceptance) I have to wonder if the looks are pleasing to people in the manufacturer's home country and so they don't understand the lack of appreciation in this country.

Yes, I had an '09 that was rock solid with no issues before I traded it in.

Regardless of make I would go with year 2. Not as important as it was with robots building the cars but not a bad plan IMHO unless you need something right now.
Am sitting out year one on two of the cars I am thinking about.

There is more coming down the line. Was in getting fresh tires & the flat screen in the holding pen showed a Volvo add stressing performance not nanny level safety. Big digital speedo quickly flipping MPH numbers up while the surrounding tach wound tighter

Listen, maybe it's these chinooks in Calgary causing all the wild swings in temperatures that have resulted in my cognitive impairment! LOL!!!
BTW, I really mistook an RLX for an Accord one day........ isn't that embarrassing?! I always hated it when people called Acuras "tarted up Accords" or whatever, but then I seriously mistook an RLX for the new Accord myself....... ouch!

First year, because I personally liked my TL. I don't compare it to other cars because I don't like other cars in its class. Personal preference, but topic is subjective to each their own.

I voted that I've given up on Acura, not because I don't like the brand, but my needs have changed. I have a used 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 in addition to my TL. The TL comes off lease in June of next year. I will turn it in and the Ram will become my primary mode of transportation. I still need a truck and the Honda Ridgeline is a relic in terms of design and technology. I'm going to trade the Ram for a new mid-size truck from GM, either the new Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon.

I'll save judgement for when it actually comes out - if it's something new in design & features it would be a consideration (right now, I think automakers have hit a theoretical wall in terms of features- many cars have tech packages with navi, bluetooth audio, electronic 'nannies' / blind spot monitors and the like), so it basically comes down to what looks best. So far, in roughly 32 years of driving, I've only had Honda products, except for my first car when I was 17. I'm loyal to the brand IF the car will be competitive.

I've had first year '87 Celica GT-S, '88 MR-2 Supercharged, '94 GS-R, '00 S2000, '10 CR-Z and '13 ILX. Of them all, the S2000 was probably the most problematic but (in an odd twist) one of the most loved. I'd obviously be OK with 1st year TLX but its far too large a car for our needs.

Very nice Steven. One of the ones on my list but the top needs to go down, last one was a coupe. Did you opt for the Z-51 package?

Hope you didn't get one of the very early vins which got detoured on their way outta Bowling Green. Some day I hope to be able to compare the C7 to my old C6.
