Winter Starting Question
Winter Starting Question
So up here in Toronto, on really cold days, I like to go out and start the car and come back inside so its warmed up and ready to go when the wife and I head out for work. Shes also pregnant so I don't want her sitting in a cold car.
Anyways - I have a 09 TL Tech FWD, and was wondering since you cannot lock the doors after you start the car and get out, can someone actually get into the running car and drive it without the keyfob even being in the car, or on that person? (I would be obiously back inside the house with the keyfob in my pocket).
So my question really is - can the car be driven if already started without the keyfob in the radar area its supposed to be?
Anybody know or ever try to see what happens?
I'm more worried that someone could steal the car - but if the car will just shut off or not even move without the keyfob then I don't need to worry.
Thanks.

While I haven't been brave enough to drive away down the street, stop and get out of the car, I did purposely leave the fob inside my house after I started the car, got out, was beeped at, got back in sans fob, backed down the driveway and parked on the street, shut off and got out. The MID was all yellow with a missing fob warning.
I believe you can actually drive off without the fob, but once you stop the car, there it will sit. I'll check this weekend to see what happens when I do the same thing, get out of the car and close the door while it's running. I wonder if it will shut itself off?

I have started the car, got out the car, and closed the door while running.
All it does is beep at you, you cannot lock the doors from anywhere (remote, inside car, door handle outside).
My main thing was, now if some stranger comes down the street sees the car started and gets in (without the keyfob), is he now able to put it in drive and take off.
I guess the above makes sense - he can drive it until he stops somewhere and turns it off, then hes stuck, but by then its too late, looks like a thief could take it easily.
It would have been a great feature to be able to kill the car if no key fob is present.
I guess I won't be leaving it unattended anymore.
