Window Tint - limo on back half?
Window Tint - limo on back half?
Just wanted to ask a questions to those of you that have had your windows tinted. I am going to get mine done soon and I want to do 35% on front driver and passenger doors, this is the legal in WA state, and Limo on the back. What do you guys think, is that too dark on the back? I want it to look good but not too over done. Also, I found a guy here locally that will do it for $180 – that seems like a good deal. He comes very highly recommended.
Anyone have any pictures of this?

I went with 35% all around. Anything darker just creates problems for me as I do a lot of "country back road" driving and it makes it difficult to see on those unlit roads, especially backing up. And I am not a fan of mismatched tints.
35% is to light my wife has that and I can't stand it, sucks. I have 20% Ga state law is 32%, but who cares? I don't. I respect the law, but 35% does nothing for me. Limo is way to dark, very hard to see out of at night.
I did 20% all the way around.
1. Is it dark? Well yeah, but you get used to it pretty quickly. Other people freak out when driving it or riding in it though. It's very private / warm inside with the rest of the world blacked out, lol.
2. Backup Camera or bust. If you don't have one, don't go that dark; you won't see out the window to back up at night.
3. Too dark to manuver in a parking lot with tinted windows? Gasp. (pushes window roll down switches). That was easy.
4. Does it keep the car cooler inside? No not really, but mine is black on black on black on black.....don't think anything would matter.
5. If you go dark, I would recommend replacing your license plate light bulbs with some high quality, high lumen LEDs. It makes a huge difference on the camera and in out-window visibility.
The tint laws don't hold up in most states since they're based off vehicles with untinted factory glass...google any number of court case documents about that one. On the other hand, most states do fine for seat belt laws now, and can pull you over for just the seat belt issue. Now, I always wear and make passenger wear them (to appease the #W$(* computer at least) - but not like you need to worry about anyone seeing in the car either...

I usually tint all my cars. I used to do limo all around, I really did enjoy the shade. However, if the cops in socal want to pull you over, and you happen to have visibly dark tint, they may give you a fix it ticket.
I did 35% fronts and 20% rear. The 35% make it so that cops don't need to squint to check whether or not you're a gangbanger (though it's still dark enough to provide shade and a degree of anonymity). Having 5, 15, or 20% fronts make it nearly impossible to see the driver without direct sunlight or a white surface on the other side of the car, it will attract attention if you live in an area where certain shades (or all) of tint are illegal.
20% in the rear makes it so that, unless there's direct sunlight, you can't see people in the rear, and it makes the cabin pretty cozy. Also, anything darker than 20% makes it really difficult to see out of the TL's already high rear deck and small rear windshield.

I personally would prefer 20%'s. But due to the fact that some officers got nothing better to do but to pull someone over just for window tint I went with 35%'s (NY legal is >=70% basically NO TINT)
I think your car looks great with the 35% all around. I'm like you, keep it legal. The days of the Limo tint are over for me!
I had an SUV before the TL and went 20% all around on that. Took me about 2 nights to get used to being able to see out them at night for backing up, etc. When I took the TL in for tint, the day after I bought it, I was going to either go 20% all around or 35% front and 20% rear. 35% is legal here and I didn't really want the hassle if there was a bored cop (though they left me alone with the SUV.) The guy working at the tint shop convinced me the 35% all around would look good on the car and I think it does.
For my 09 I had 20% all around, I loved it, it was really great but it was super dark for the seeing out of the back windows and I was always afraid of a ticket (tint laws are no where near as generous in NY). I'm going to get my '11 done over the weekend and im torn if I should do the same, or do the 35%...In my opinion limo is way too dark for the back. I have full rear limo tint on my Yukon XL, and it's pitch black inside in the back seats/back window, not really crazy about it..

35%, which is the law here. Some tint spots will do it but they won't provide you with a receipt because they aren't suppose to install it. I've known three people who had to remove dark tint on the spot or get a hefty ticket here in the CSRA area. Most of the times they let folks slide, but depending on the law enforcement mood...you get my drift.
