Why do people want to paint the signature 4G grill??

The grill is one of the things that why I bought the car. I think it's agressive and it's different from any other cars that are out there...if people are so against the way the grill looks...why buy the car????

Because there is more to the car than just the grill. Just because we all bought a 4g TL doesn't mean that we love EVERY aspect of it.

And BTW, I do like my grill just the way it is but that's a personal opinion that could differ from me (and you) to the next guy.

I think you are right but don't you think by painting the grill it sort of takes the character out of the car?

I like the grill just fine, but not the color, so I changed it - its no different than adding an aero kit, roof spoiler, tinting windows, changing rims...make the car your own

It is again your personal opinion What you consider "Character" could (and is generally) interpreted as "ugliness" to many others. The sales figures of the TL shows that most people don't like the "radical" styling. Personally, I like it

no it's not...you can dress up the car just like you can dress yourself up but you still wouldn't change the way your face looks right?

You don't have to love every aspect of the car you buy...that's why there's an aftermarket market

Are you seriously comparing a piece of plastic to your face?

I don't particularly love the grill but it makes it one of the most recognizable grills out there. When a vehicle is coming towards you it is easy to recognize it is an Acura as it is easy to recognize an Audi or BMW coming towards you. I like that I can tell an Acura is coming down the road myself, whether it is a TL, MDX, RDX, TSX or a ZDX, I know it is an Acura. Will I paint it out? I have thought about it but not done it to this point.

The thing about family resemblance is that sometimes its an ugly family - or maybe it's a family who all have big noses. It doesn't make them bad people, but it still makes them ugly. I'm amazed at the trend the past several years towards gaudy looking front grills as if that is going to improve sales. Some of the biggest selling cars out there have fairly conservative looking front ends.

To the original question, I think it has been well answered. I've never found a perfect car for me. If you can find one that you can fix what you don't like the most, then it's a pretty good choice.

For me, there was no other car out there that had everything I wanted and was in my price range. The grille wasn't a major turnoff, but it did get to me over time. Since I wrapped it in vinyl and painted the mesh I absolutely love the look!

It's kinda like getting a boob job for your girl...she was hot enough to attact you in the first place but what's wrong with making her even hotter?

Cause it's been refered to as a beak, can opener.......

Like people have said it's all a personal chaoice. Having it blend in with the car is what most people are looking for. It's not as in your face when it's painted.

Also have to agree with owners of with dark colored cars. Painting the whole grill and surround looks best.

It's just a matter of personalization. Makes the car stand out from amongst all other 4G TL's.

I had a love/hate relationship with my beak. I loved it the first time I saw it, hated it 6 months into ownership, then grew to love it again. I wouldn't change it now.

Everyone has a specific taste, maybe some guy's like big titties, but I'm on the IBTC. To each their own.

^ Thank you that's a better metaphor. Why people do it? The 09-11 have big beaks hence why 2012's the beak was addressed. But in all honesty the beak is fine if you paint it. It flows with your car instead of a big silver beak in the middle of whatever color your TL is

Lol. If you want to use this analogy, painting the grill is like a girl putting on make up. You're not changing the way the face looks, just coloring it.

most ppl find the grill pretty ugly. i think it's pretty ugly. love the car, but the grill is still pretty ugly. If i had it my way, i'd body match the grill. However, I can "live" with the grill as is for now. Hey, it's ugly, but at least it's aggressive.... many ppl can't live with it (i can understand that too). Why do you think acura tamed the 2012 grill?? LOL (although, i will say they went too far and made the 2012 too weak looking, and not aggressive enough)

You took the words right out of my mouth.

OP, why do you NOT want to paint the "signature" 4G grill? Probably the same reason some of us want to paint ours -- because it's your personal preference, and that's the way you want it.... Right? Why does everything have to be so black and white with some people, honestly? Because someone chooses to paint the 4G grill does not automatically mean they are against it - or FOR it for that matter.

Hmm...... And furthering that, do you honestly think the "signature" grill is the one and only reason that any of us have gone out and purchased a 4G? If the grill was the only aspect you considered when purchasing your TL, I think you could have done better elsewhere.

Nexson, you should build more of your very nice-looking home-make TL grille.

I don't like putting extra money into cars to change the appearance, and I'm not going to mess with my grill, but I have to say that some of the painted grills that people have posted here look pretty damn cool.

Some people don't want that much character. I sure didn't.

I think sales of the 4G TL say something to that effect.

What do you mean that much character? The thing is, I have a palladium metallic paint job. So the metal grill goes along with my deal.

I paint my grille for a very simple reason, because I think it looks better painted. Its a matter of personal preference imho.

I didn't like the grill on my 10 Tech originally but loved the rest of the car so I didn't let it stop me from buying it. Over time I have not only gotten used to it but can almost say I love it. It is different than anything else out there - love it or hate it people pay attention to it. Compared to it the 12's grill is almost too tame. Of course, it does seem to be less intrusive on lighter colors. Mine's WDP.

Guess people paint it for the same reason Honda changed it......they think it looks better after the change. Personally, I like the RonJon kit the best on the car.
