Whew, almost locked my keys in the trunk
....but as soon as the trunk slammed shut and before I could say, "Damn it!" an audible alarm went off as trunk simultaneously popped open...nice!
What features of your 4G did you just forget about that or didn't realize you had that have come in handy?

wait.
your keys were inside your trunk...you closed the trunk...and the trunk popped back open?
trunk knew your keys were chillin' in there?

when you bought the car.. the guy was suppose to explain that to you... your car will not lock if the keys are inside and the car is not on.. plain and simple. trunk will pop open if the keys are inside and you close the trunk. it will beep.

They explained pretty much every feature, but you know how it can be...it's been nearly a year since I picked Grace up and it slipped my mind. That's why I mentioned a feature you may have forgotten about in the title of the thread. I like it!

I left my keys in my gym bag, tossed the bag in the trunk slammed it shut...then the proximity sensor feature did its thing.
So basically yeah, it sensed them chilling in the gym bag.

is this just a 4g thing or can us 3g owners do this as well?

*edit...just reread potmilkz post. what about if your car is running?*

If your TL has the "start" button, you can't lock your keys in the trunk (unless you throw them through the pass through while the trunk is already closed. The only TL's that have a start button are 4th gen tech package models.

Hey!! Look at it this way: The 3G is a thinking man's car. We gotta stay aware of our surroundings, know where our property is.
Not like the mamby-pamby baby-sitter 4G for all those dipsticks that can't keep track of the simplest things. I mean doesn't this really sound like a "wife" feature? Pfffft!!

Disclaimer: OP is not necessarily a "dipstick", but he did try to lock his keys in the trunk. Just sayin'.

Cool feature indeed. Most cars with a start/stop button have something similar. Because when you think about it, the car doesn't receive the command to lock the doors until the fob is X amount of feet away.

So what happens if you start the car, leave car running, open trunk, throw your keys in the trunk, and then shut the trunk?
or
start the car, leave car running, press lock button on the FOB, open trunk with button on FOB, throw your keys in the trunk, and then shut the trunk?
Anybody want to try it out?

still wont lock..
the trunk will reject the key being inside weather the car is on or not.
and if you leave the car on and step outside the car it will make this loud beeping sound to tell you that your keys are not in the car (unless you put it on the FOB key holder socket)
this feature has its drawbacks..
lets just say if you leave the keys in the car while its off and suppose you walked away.. it will never auto lock.. lol keys are inside the car.
someone can just hop in and press start and drive off.. lol

1) have the trunk closed
2) open the pass through in the back seat
3) throw your keys into the back corner of the trunk so you can't reach them
The trunk only re-opens if it senses it was closed while the keys were in the trunk. If it is already closed before the keys get there, it will not pop open.
FWIW you can lock the car while it is running by using the actual key that is stored in the key fob. It a nice thing to now if you want to allow the car to warm up (or cool down) before you drive off but don't want to leave it running and unlocked. Just start the car, then close the door and lock it using the key in the keyhole in the door. You can leave the rest of the fob in the car if you want or you can take it with you, it doesn't matter.

The security re lock feature also would not come into play as it will only relock the car if you have pushed unlock on the key fob and do not open any doors within 30 seconds (or 60 or 90 depending on whether you changed the factory default settings).

Wife picks me up at LGA, throw my luggage in trunk, won't stay closed. Move luggage around, try again, no good.
Stand there couple minutes thinking WTF!
Remember my keys in luggage, dig them out, close trunk, on our way!
Pretty amazed

you just totally contradicted yourself
so the feature only comes into play when the car is off or on? lol your confusing everybody.
answer is both, but depending on situation. it works both driving and when the car is off.
It wouldn't auto lock regardless of whether the keys are in the car or not in the situation you described. The auto lock only operates when the car is taken out of park or reaches 10 mph depending on which option you chose. The auto lock is a feature that only comes into play when the car is on

The auto door lock is whether and when the doors will lock as you prepare to drive off. The options are "with vehicle speed" and "shift from park". This feature is in play when the engine is running or when the vehicle is fully powered but the engine has not been started.
The security re-lock timer is a feature designed to prevent accidental unlocking of the car. If you push the unlock button on the fob and do not open the any of the cars doors, the vehicle will re-lock itself. The options for this feature are 30, 60, or 90 seconds, it cannot be disabled. The purpose is to make sure the vehicle is locked if you accidentally hit the unlock button as you put the keyfob into your pocket or purse. If you pay attention, you will notice that you have to push the trunk button for about 2 seconds before it opens, this is because it does not have a re-close feature so you have to deliberately hold the button down. The security re-lock feature is only in play when the vehicle is off, it also is disabled as soon as any door is opened.
As a side note, for those who don't know....
You can also set the car to unlock the drivers door or all doors when you shift to park or turn the ignition off (one or the other on which door and when it does it) as well as set the car to unlock all of the doors with one push of the unlock button on the key fob.
I know a lot of stuff about the way your car works. Trust me me info comes straight from the tree.
As a second side note, your remote has a better range if you hold it up to your chin when you push the buttons, try it.

black_lable,
you just explained what i said in depth.. thats all
oh and the reason why you get better range is because a human body acts as a antenna, thus further range.

This is a stretch on the subject, but wonder if you guys caught the NBC Morning news about keyless entry cars not turning off after a certain amount of time?
Not sure how anyone can forget to shut their car off to begin with?
Carbon Monoxide Deaths Resulting from Keyless Entry Cars are Inevitable
I know my truck with the remote start shuts off after 20 minutes automatically.

#1 Keyless Access / Push button start. I cannot speak for all companies, but the ones i have experience with, infiniti, acura, audi, if you have the key with you and you leave your car while it's running, all 3 of them will beep or make some kind of noise. This appears to have been the case of the above story. She must be deaf to not hear the warning beeps. The only problem I see is if you ignore that beep and drive away, I don't remember seeing anything talking about the car shutting itself off in the manual for my TL.
#2 Remote start. I know that hondas and viper(?) have systems where they automatically turn off the car after 10 or 20 minutes (longer for viper depending on model, programming, etc). In addition, hondas will also turn off when you unlock the car or have a window broken, this is to prevent theives from stealing your car if you're starting it outside and they happen to see that opportunity.
#3 Keyless entry. Almost all cars now have keyless entry. This is just the simple remote that comes with most cars today. Keyless entry =/= keyless access or remote start. Many articles confuse the three.
so in the end, i'll ignore this, and continue to embrace new and improving technology.

Can't roll em back up with key FOB. Apparently you can buy a roll up module to remedy this. It's unsafe to have windows auto roll up according to acura because there is no saftey feature to stop them.

This feature was not explained to me when I bought the car. Imagine my disgust early one December morning as I'm planing to start my 1800 mile trip to Texas and I throw my carrybag (which happens to contain my spare key) in the trunk and the damn thing keeps popping open.

Wow, your dealer missed the boat on that one.
