A good-quality synthetic is all you need. Amsoil, Mobil 1 and Royal Purple are top-tier but any of the other brands (Pennzoil, Valvoline, etc) will serve you just as well and save you a few bucks.

I've been using Royal Purple 5w-20. sKepz, you can use 0w-20 in your '09 TL if you've got the 3.5L engine (from your avatar, it looks like you've got the FWD model with it's 3.5L engine). It is acceptable for use per Acura. There's an oil viscosity chart floating around here somewhere... I've heard good things about Toyota's 0w-20 synthetic oil on Bob is the Oil guy forums....

Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-20. I used Mobil 1 too in my previous car, 2001 Acura CL-S. After 160,000 miles, peeking inside the engine through the oil filler cap, everything looked as clean as when it was new. I'm sure all synthetic oils provide similar results.

I use Royal purple in all my cars. If you not going to keep the car for 10 years or more, you can use any good oil and change at the recommended mileage and you will be good to go. If you just want to feel good, Mobile one is good and cheaper then top tier brands. RP is $9 a quart.

Why dude?!! Why?!?! We already have so many of similar threads....
Now that I have done been a d**k, I use Mobil 1 EP 5w-20 with K&N HP 1010 Oil Filter. But, if I cant find MB1 EP, I wont mind going with Castrol Edge Titanium or Penzoil Ultra Synthetic or Royal Purple. They are all top notch Synthetic oil.
Just dont ever, and I mean EVER, cheap out on the Oil Filter. Always use a quality Oil Filter with Synthetic oil. I prefer K&N, Mobil 1, Royal Purple (All three made by Champion), or Bosch.
Hope this helps.

fantastic oil, American made, minimal impact on the environment.

Just make sure you use synthetic oil which is best for all engines.

Lol.. what's funny in this argument is that both the Mobil1 oil and Honda branded oil (as shown in the pic) are made by the same company (ExxonMobil). To see the differences between them, one would have to look at the spec sheet.

it's OIL, don't believe the hype
Change it when the minder tells you to and drive away, you are not racing the thing.
My MINIs used Castrol and oil change interval was 15k, the service department told me that if anything happens to my motor it would be covered under warranty for 100k... I ran it to 108k before I traded it and never used/leaked a drop.
I would almost bet that the factory oil is synthetic, my 10 CR-V used full syn Honda oil. Plus are you planning on keeping the car for 300k or something?

what about Moly's, Poly's and HTHS and whatever else is in the oils!?!
I do know that the M1EP stuff has a low HTHS rate.
so, its meant to shear in order to gain that 1mpg or even less.
shearing is bad!!!
also, some of the M1 stuff ISNT a full synthetic, rather a blend.
I ran a couple intervals of M1 0w-40 as this is a FULL synthetic with a HTHS rate of 3.8%
Right now, I'm about to try redline 5w-30 as it has a HTHS rate of 3.9%
I'm just nitpicking as if you use any quality oil and stick to the MID, you're golden!

so i shouldnt use M1 extended performance?
what is good then cuz my oil level is at 30% and i need to change my oil.. so far M1EP has been good to me..

I use Amsoil when I have it available. When not Mobil 1. Always 5-20 weight. However any good quality synthetic should do the job for you. The extra money spent is worth the peace of mind to me as I usually change out once a year due to low mileage.

Mobil 1 5w20. (2012 3.7L).
More important than the brand of oil is the viscosity.
Use what is recommended by Honda/Acura.
The oil pump and bearing clearances are set for that viscosity.

Since you have a custom 3.7 with a ton of work, how did you come to the conclusion that that's the best oil for your motor? At what stage of modding do you switch from the manufacture recommended grade? Torco oils doesn't have 5W20, but has 0W20, it recommends to sub 5W20 for 0W20. Torco is sort of a best kept secret, ultra premium product, is that's why you can get away with the substitution?

you can switch oils at any time, even go back and fourth between synthetic and conventional.
I believe fatty is running the 0w-40 because its just has better compounds in it.
poly something and a high HTHS rate!
I'm currently running redline 5w30 and it has a bunch of "poly somethings"(i dont know the correct terminology) and a very high HTHS rate of 4.0%
High Temp High Sheer rate.
most of the m1 EP stuff has a VERY low HTHS rate and is meant to sheer in high temps.

That said, like justnspace mentioned, im running the 0w40 due to the higher HTHS rating. Im currently in the Im choosing what oil i want to run. Ill know more after comparing a few oil sample tests.
I ran a M1 0w-40. good synthetic. except slightly lower HTHS rate than redline 5w-30.

I use Mobil 1 EP 5W-20 & filter Mobile 1 model M1110 change every 4 to 4500 miles regardless what the MID indicates 50%; old school guy.
Strange that in Europe its all about Mobil 1 0W-40; no matter if its a GTR - Lambo - Ferrari - Porsche - BMW - Mobil 1 0W-40 is the norm.

very much overkill.
with the wide range of maintenance that we've seen here on our boards, one can conclude that the J-motor will last a lifetime by changing out the oil on a regular basis. whether it be 3k miles or 6k, as long as you change it and its filter, your engine will have no problems.
you are correct in thinking a thinner oil will give better miles to the gallon. but on one vehicle, the fuel economy is negligible.
Honda changed their WHOLE fleet to 5w-20 to adhere to CAFE regulations.
on a whole fleet of cars, you will see an increase of fuel economy, as a whole.
The only reason why I run the redline 5w-30 is because Im single. and I dont mind blowing extra cash on my car.
best believe if times get tough, i'll switch to a more cost friendly option, like whatever is on sale at autozone or walmart
