Nah it can't the type s offers more than just good handling

I'm not sure what you're thinking the SH-AWD lacks compared to the TL-S.

As great as the TL-S is, the SH-AWD handles better, accelerates harder, and has more creature comforts. I was considering a TL-S, but once I drove the SH-AWD, it was a no-brainer for me.

(That being said, if I had bought a TL-S in '08, I'm certain I'd be perfectly happy with it).

I don't see a Type S down the road given the new fuel mileage requirements, but who knows. Unless there's an Acura insider on this forum, we're all just guessing.

If such a model were to come to market, it would likely be in the fall of 2011 as a 2012. However, the SH-AWD DOES essentially replace the Type-S. I don't know what you meant by the Type-S offering so much more than just handling. It added:

Sport touches inside

Upgraded suspension/wheels/tires

Sport touches outside (bumpers, exhausts, etc.)

Upgraded engine

And that's pretty much it. Now the SH basically offers all of that. So what are you thinking of?

I forsee a 4G Type-S coming along as a 2012 model. The SH-AWD does not replace the performance enhancements a Type-S model usually has. When the 3G TL came out, a 6MT option was offered with brembo brakes, different suspension, etc. Along with an available A-Spec package to all TL models. One could've assumed that a Type-S model wasn't going to be released when those factors were in play during the 04-06 TL era, but Acura introduced a 3G TL-S in 2007 and they sold like hot cakes.

There will be a 4G TL Type-S. Even if there already is an SH-AWD model with 3.7 liter engine.

Honda/Acura seem to be shying away from the performance scene. The last few years have shown the demise of the Prelude, S2000, and the NSX in favor of 2 new hybrid platforms, 2 new wagons, 2 new SUVs and a new crossover. Direction much... ?

Granted Honda is super secret, but their Hybrid plans have been a huge disspointment so I don't see them with any thing large ina hybrid for some time. If their Accord Hybrid was any insight as to their plans it was a huge failure

I think it's very likely Keith that you and I will both be driving another car way before anything significant is announced by Acura so none of this really matter. (I'm already itichin to get into the new 5 series!).

Where do you go from a SH-AWD tech? V-8 power plant, 20 inch wheels, even stiffer suspension? I consider myself part of the demographic that Acura is marketing itself to. I would not have any interest in buying such a car.

I actually really liked the Accord Hybrid I drove. A good friend of mine had a wife with a 2003 Accord V-6 non-hybrid and then traded it on the 2006 Hybrid. The Hybrid was not only easily quicker but thanks to VCM and electric power, it creased 40 mpg. That's hugely impressive to me considering they were quick cars. And it didn't handle much differently at all either.

I would very much like to see that hybrid technology applied to Acuras. Like the Accord Hybrid though, I want to see automatics, not CVTs, which still don't really help mileage any good amount.

Folks, I encourage you to drive something like the GS450h to get a sense of what I'm talking about. It FEELS much torquier than the 460 just because of that massive electric torque. I just don't like the CVT.

I could see them introducing the Type-S as an upgrade to the front-wheel drive model - giving it the sh-awd upgrades without the awd

I'd have to find the article but I read somewhere that Acura will be bringing out a hybrid TSX as a 2011 release - probably later on in the model year.

Did you noticed, Acura left the space in the lower-middle of the steering wheel for the badge ?

just like on my 07 TL-S badge, it will fit in that same spot.

Its only natural for them to come to market with a type-s model. The last one sold very well not to mention they actually need something with some real balls to rival their competitors who seemed to have upped the ante in the power department. Ill be waiting for it!

i saw 1 2010 TL-S here in nevada.i went to the dealer to get my oil change and there's this one sitting in the show room, salesman said its only 1 here in nevada.. looks really nice but i didnt take a pics coz i forgot my phone. anyway, it has 286hp, type-s emblem on the back and the lower side, full body kit, leather seats with type-s on it and o yeah $50K tag price!!!

Agreed with previous poster that this is not an official TL-S but a dealer upgrade package. Acura would certainly have publicized and advertised the fact that they were introducing a TL-S model to the fold. That being said, I hope they do introduce one in the next year or two.

Wow 268hp! Holy crap, the Type-S is slower than my ~300HP SH-AWD.

Yea, there is a thread about that showing that car, they took a FWD TL w/ Tech, painted the calipers, body kit and some lame ass type-s emblem. I'm sure some sucker may buy it... Dealerships like that make me physically ill...

sorry dude, but i just went from a 07 type s to a 2010 sh awd, and the sh-awd doent accelerate harder by any means then the type s did...my type s was much more fun to drive faster then my sh is...

My 2010 AWD with six speed blows the doors off my 2007 TL-S (which was auto) in terms of the butt dyno. No data to back it up, but it puts a smile on my face like that car never did

But, I wish the AWD had more exterior "spiffing up" like the TL-S did.

my type s and my sh are both autos, my sh has 305hp and weighs 3986lbs...
my type s had 287hp and weighs 3674....

hp difference is 18hp and the weight difference is 312...that 18hp is not enough to make it quicker then my type s was...seat of the pants ofcourse tells me the type s was a quicker car...

im pretty sure a type s will be rereleased with the facelifted version of the 4g. it has been a constant pattern for the last 2 gens i dont see why they would change it now

^ they shouldnt, I just couldnt imagine what they would do to the current model to make it a type s. It better be a freakin v8, I would gladly drop my current 4g for a v8 TL. But yes, 2012 is when a type s should come out if there is going to be one.

Honda's gotta be working on a new family of engines - perhaps adopting direct injection with some form of turbo that gets more hp per liter with better mpg. That's if they want to match the competition, but with Honda reliability. If they go for something over and above the competition, please don't let it be a hybrid. The SH-AWD trunk can't get any smaller, and the car can't get any heavier.

...won't be a V8, but a type S would be a good intro to the top of the line of the new engine family. I'd still be happy with 300ish peak hp, but increase the torque to 300ish as well, and across the rev band, while getting over 30mpg, and that would make a pretty nice Type S. For marketing purposes, though, I'd recommend peak hp at 320 - 326 to stay with the tradition of Type-S peak hp bump; and they need to compensate for the fact the general public doesn't seem to understand that area under the power curve can mean a heckuva lot more than peak numbers.

i really would have liked to hold out for a type s, i just like the styling of type s...i wish they would have done a little more to the sh, maybe aluminum pedals, the darker wheels, quad pipes, not the single pipe with a divider in the middle....i would have really liked to have seen sh-awd embossed in the headrest, and a little emblem on the steering wheel would have been nice too!!

Agreed, even the Taurus SHO is running turbo’s.

I hope to GOD they do not go direct injection, unless they can make it work a lot better than the current Audi direct injection. Otherwise we will be scraping carbon buildup off of our valves with ice picks and carb cleaner.

I had read some positive notes regarding hp timing and gas mileage with direct injection, but I clueless about the ill effects. Are you talking about burnt valves?

No sir, because fuel does not spray onto the valve to help wash some of the carbon deposits, the valves get caked with carbon to a point where they do not function normally.



There are worse cases than this. This one is it at 60k miles, its a friend of mines 2006 Audi A4 2.0T

Why settle for a type-s just put just get the type-s sticker and cut off the "-s" and put it on your car for a "type SH-AWD"!
