Upgrading to a TL
I have a 2009 TSX (non tech package) I am looking at the 2009 or 2010 TL. I don't know if I should get a TL with the Tech Package or not. Is having the Tech Package worth paying the extra money? How often do you have to take it in to get the maps updated and how much does it costs?

Map updates are annual and depending on how extensive the update you can skip a few. That being said, I would always choose the tech package if not necessarily for the Nav but for the upgraded radio and the backup camera.

I went from 3.5 Base non-tech TL, and traded up to a 3.7 SHAWD TECH.
You are going to be blown away. Coming from the TSX the TL is so much FASTER
Tech package is worth it. Browsing your ipod on the big screen. having all your CDs on the HDD. Better sound quality and more solid bass.
I love the push button start. keys stay in your pocket so they don't jingle against your knee while you are driving.
$
Backup camera and spoiler. It's all good stuff you would miss.

Get the tech...even if that means waiting a little bit longer...is worth it....the TL with tech is a modern airliner without wings...
This is what Motortrend wrote about it: "Inside the sculptural, "dual-cockpit" cabin awaits a feast of advanced technology, enough to make the commander of a Los Angeles-class submarine jealous"
Do you need any more convincing??

I went from an '08 base TL to the SH-AWD Advanced.. After 4 months of ownership, I am still blown away at the difference in power and the tech. I went with the loaded package because I regretted not getting the tech package with the 3G.

soo.. you guys are saying get the tech package?? :P
seriously though, definitely get tech package; biggest thing for me is the quality of the leather. in the base TL the leather appeared to be the same crappy quality from the accord. in the tech package it's the perforated milano leather which matches the status of this car much better.

The AWD comes with the better leather or as it's called milano leather. The tech package has nothing to do with the leather at all, just technical goodies.

negative there buddy; not sure how it was before; but in the '12 model both the base TL's (FWD and sh-awd) get the crappy leather. the perforated milano leather comes as part of the tech package. go build it on acura.com and see for yourself

I went from an '05 TL Tech to an '09 Tl Tech and the difference is mind blowing. That said, if you can get a good deal on a '10 instead of an '09, go for it. As with most autos, the first model year of a new design always has nuances and bugs which need tweaking. The '09 is no different. The rust issue on the rotors, some XM interference issues, mirror control arms are just a few I've had. Granted all minor, but with the '10 mostly fixed.

The TL is a really good car w/o Tech, but WITH Tech, it's amazing. C'mon, push button start, never having to take your keys out to open the door, back-up camera... it's just a Honda in Acura clothing w/o the Tech Package (or the SH-AWD!!)

It's almost like asking if you should get a TL with Nav or not. If you can afford it, do it!

I purchased mine at Criswell in Annapolis - ask for Alan Hannon, tell him Michelle sent you. IDK what they have for inventory at this point, but he's a pretty decent guy to deal with.
Frankel in Hunt Valley is AMAZING, but again, IDK what they have.

The Tech also has the side mirrors that tilt down when backing up. No more crunching the wheels on the curb during parallel parking. That, together with the wide-angle rear camera and big, decent-resolution screen give a lot of confidence that you won't run into something given the high rear deck. The wide-angle camera is especially useful backing out of a parking spot when there's a %^$# SUV blocking your view.
For me, the price premium for the Tech vs. base was well worth it.

okay, I'm the naysayer here. I bought a lightly used 2010 TL SHAWD w/o Tech. I'm fixing the spoiler problem myself (e-bay). Probably going to either have the grill painted the same color as the car, CPB, or get the Ronjon grill (more likely paint). While the ventilated seats would be nice, not sure how much I really want them. I have found the Acura/Honda GPS user interfaces to be trailing edge. The back up camera would be nice, but I know people who have them, and rarely use them. I can browse the iPod quite well, (not in color) from the wheel & the control dial. The back up camera in the Audi A4 I test drove was cool, it showed blue lines where the car was going from the position of the steering wheel, but didn't see this on the Acura. The black leather with white stitching is fine in terms of looks & comfort, albeit, like the ventilated seats, the perforated leather would be nice, but wasn't that important to me. But I liked the nice price and, SHAWD was the critical feature. Oh, and I got heated seats, which was another feature I couldn't do without. I don't plan on trading this car in anytime soon, so retaining its value is not the critical to me. Was important to me was the driving characteristics, which I got with the SHAWD.

^ What is your point? You said you are the naysayer but .. well, what are you naysaying? The Audi A4 is better because it has the moving blue lines in the back-up camera yet hardly anyone uses the back-up camera anyway? I use my camera all the time but not for most of the backing.. I am a mirror guy but use the camera to tell if I am too close to the cars behind me whn backing out of parking spaces. *shrug*

I know you already said you decided to go with the tech package, but I just wanted to reaffirm your good choice.
-you get the back up camera with comes
Handy when backing up or packing.
-the spoiler which makes to rear look better.
-iPod or mp3 USB dock, hard for personal music.
-navi
-and if you can afford to upgrade why not.
Enjoy your new purchase and do post pictures when you get it.

Do the 09-10 techs have voice command? Maybe not no one has mentioned it. I had a non Advance non Tech loaner when the dealer installed my remote start. From an interior standpoint it hardly seemed like the same car.

The 09-11 Tech models do have voice command. I believe it's part of the Technology package. You're right about the stark contrast between the interiors of the Tech and non Tech models.
