Turn Signal Mod

Ok, So today I finally swapped out my side markers with some LED, after getting them cleared the bulbs were not orange and they looked odd.

While I was doing that I figured that I would try the turn signal mod that CleanCL did. You put elec tape over one contact (trial and error to find the right one, and it's supposed to leave the running light off, but make the turn signal still work.

When I did that the blinker blinked very quickly... I'm guessing it thought a bulb was out or something? Also I noticed that when the amber bulb goes back in, it shows amber in the reflector in the daylight.

So a cpl questions.

1. Why is the turn signal blinking fast, and how do I stop it?
2. I'd like to remove the amber bulb to get a clean look during the day, what are some options to change that?

in regards to the hyper blinking its because ur using a LED bulb. i had that problem with my switchbacks and it can easily be fixed by installing a resistor on each bulb. theyre available at v-leds.com

No LED bulb on the turn signals. I replaced the side markers with LED bulbs since getting them cleared. While I was doing that I decided to make the turn signals only turn on when they were blinking (2 contacts underneath, block the "running" one). The bulb is still the one from the factory.

Would I still need a resistor when using the factory bulb? What is the specific kind that I need?
If i'm changing the bulb out already, is there an amber LED replacement for the turnsignals?

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I started the work by replacing my side markers, but the issue is with my blinkers/running lights on the bumper.

Ok, I figured out my problem, when I put the bulb back in with the electrical tape, I think I put it in the wrong way (they only fit one way), and forced the connectors down into the socket. When i bent them back up and tried again the fast blinking stopped...

Problem solved!

Nope - just pull out the bulb, put some electrical tape over one contact, and put back in, might take trial and error to figure out which contact is the one you need.

if you cover one side, it would read as if its out.. it will cause hyperblink on led bulbs..

having it turn on only when blinking with electrical tape only applies to regular bulbs.

OP: When you mean off, you mean to say if you turn on your driving light or headlamp. The signal is off right? It is only on if you signal correct? All I did was I just cut one of the 3 wires.

It is a HUGE pain to get at them. You have to take some clips off your wheel well, take some bolts and clips off the rubber front lip.

If you have a SHAWD version then you have to have skinny long arms to reach up inside to get the right one and untwist it (which is in a really awkward position because you have no leverage), it is the most difficult part.

To apply the tape its actually on the bulb itself not the grey adapter.

Ya, Its like they design it like that to make you go into the dealer to even change a bulb.

I would recommend to do turn signal/fog light changes all at the same time because they both require you to do the same steps.

Just added iJDMToy LED Switchbacks to SH-AWD

I can concur getting access to the front turn signal bulbs is a royal PITA.

If anybody is considering changing out these or the Fog Light bulbs I would strongly suggest jacking up the car (safely of course) and removing the wheel before beginning. Especially if you are accessing the passenger side where the screen washer fluid reservoir sits. There is no way you can gain access to the back of the light fittings with the wheel on and the washer reservoir all in the way without seriously distorting the plastic liner and risking damage. In addition I suggest removing the inner portion of the wheel well plastic liner, i.e. the smaller section that goes up against the inner wheel arch and interlocks with the main liner component -do this on both sides to aid access.
