Too many buttons.... not enough buttons...

Too many buttons.... not enough buttons...
I know they refer to the MDX, but I own a TL and the same applies. I expect the TLX will get the same criticism:

Personally, I'm in favor of more buttons rather than fewer. I do some professional photography and video work as a side business and I prefer cameras that have buttons and switches for functions, rather than having to dive into menus.
It begs the question... do the people who design these (cars, cameras, etc.) even *use* them?

It seems Acura can't win. 2009 Tl was too bold. 2014 RLX is too bland. When I first purchased my 09 TL I was amazed at the amount of buttons. Now that I am familiar with them, I love the execution. I have even added buttons. I am not a fan of touch screens to replace buttons.

This. My wife has a new Highlander Limited with touch screen and it is a pain in the neck and takes your eyes off the road more than it would if it had more dedicated buttons.

I honestly think the Audi MMI setup is great. I don't like touchscreen as much as you need to reach more upward and look, plus there isn't much, if any feedback. It's easier with buttons/dials imo. I don't mind the Acura system. It's far from perfect, but when I use the MMI in my friends All Road, I get jealous.

I have both TL and 14 MDX. I like the TL cockpit better (I like more buttons). I can live with the touch screen on the MDX but they need to make it respond faster, way faster than it is now.
I also wish they gave us physical buttons for those critical functions like heated seat and air flow control.

People are going to complain no matter what. Whatever feature or function that anyone adds to anything - be it computers, tablets, phones, cars, TVs, etc - there will always be haters. It only complicates the matter with the amount of crap they're trying to cram in to everything today. "Yeah it's cool that it has Pandora, but feature X worked with my Samsung some-crap-whatever and it doesn't work with my new HTC some-crap-thingamajig... who do I call to complain?"
Personally I think putting vital functions inside a computer vs having hard buttons is stupid. If you have a car with LCD NAV from the early 00s, and that screen fails, you say "Oh that sucks... now I can't use my nav. I guess I'll just use my phone." When the screen the RLX or MDX fails in 12 years you say "Oh... well I guess I'll go pay the dealer $3K to fix this, or I can't adjust my AC, heat, stereo, etc. etc." That'll be sweet in a -14 degree February in Minnesota. :-)

I love the buttons, and I love how certain buttons have little bumps on them so I can know where my finger is without taking my eyes off the road. I hate the touch screens, takes to long to find things and I have to take my eyes off the road. I can do just about everything I want in my '09 TL without ever taking my eyes off the road. I just wish I had the additional phone button that the '12 TLs have.

I LOVE the buttons especially when they light up at night. But I just use voice commands
I was in the car once and said "What time is it?" and my friend sitting next to me raised his wrist to see his watch and my car told me the time. The look on his face was priceless LOL!

Touch screens are terrible. My friend just bough a 2013 ATS and the screen is constantly filled with fingerprints. Also that whole CUE system kind of blows. I love the buttons in the TL and I hope they don't take them away in the TLX. Also the Audi system without the Nav has it's buttons down way to low in front of the damn shift lever
