TL vs TSX - interior space
I took my 2007 MDX in for service and received a 2009 TSX as a loaner. Nice car. not very powerful, lacking torque, but it did scream if you revved the stink out of it.
I had rec'd an older gen TSX as a loaner once and I remember not liking it that much. This car I actually liked a lot. it would be awesome with a V6 in it - but the one thnig that stood out to me is that this newly restyled TSX felt as big inside as the 3G TLs I had as loaners in the not too distant past.
w/out looking up stats online - is the new TSX as big as the 3G TL - what especially matters to me is rear seat room - width. I have three kids - sot he MDX is the main family car which easily fits our three car seats - actually two car seats - one booster.
the 3G TL fit them all across the back, only a bit tighter than the MDX.
this new TSX fit them all too. it might have been *barely* tighter than the TL...not sure, I didn't do this back to back - more like months and months apart - but hey, they all fit into the back of the TSX.
almost made me do a double take at the $299 lease offer. my current DD is a POS and I'd love to swap it out.
what do you all think of the new TSX in terms of size/rear seat volume? it's clearly not a "family sedan" but as a second ca r- it seems like it might do it.
I don't need a full on sporty car - I have a boxster for that - i'm looking for something that *can* fit all threek ids - but can be fun to drive for DD commuting to/from work during thew eek.
the TSX I had was an auto. would be fun to try this car in the 6 speed....

I'm NOT looking for "fun" car - as I already have the boxster for that. i'm more or less looking for ecnomical transportation as a DD. I've got the MDX for the "long" trips with the family - but it would be nice to replace my existing DD in the near future - and the TSX seemed like a nice car. it's clearly not a "sports" car - but given the pricing it looked like a nice car for the money with a decent amount of space.
i haven't looked at the accord. can you get a similarly equipped accord for less?

From Car and Driver:
2009 Honda Accord EX-L - Comparison Test
Highs: Sports-sedan reflexes, plenty of power, potent engine sounds, smooth ride, lots of room.
Lows: Forgettable styling, center-stack button clutter, where’s the six-speed gearbox?
The Verdict: Unexpected athletic delights in a big package.

Wait until this summer. The TSX has a confirmed 3.5L 280hp (there abouts) V6 coming out. The TSX is a good bargain as a DD. I would take it over an Accord.

TSX is 186.1 inch in length. 72.4 inch width. TSX has higher ground clearance & shorter turning radius.

according to cars.com and several other publications the 07 tl is 72.2" please quote the source of your supposed 75.4" because they are wrong. the 4g tl is wider than the 3g and looks wider as well when compared side to side.

JD23, premium gas is not much more annually....but my comments are soley based on the OP's desire for a economical DD that is not too boring to drive and has a big back seat to transport his 3 kids. Premium gas is only a small part of the pie.
There is nothing wrong with the TSX, TL or Accord. It's just what is best suited for the OP's needs. A Camry can even be a possibility, but most people here will agree it's a little too soft of a ride with a little too much body roll.
The Accord is the more economical car of the 3 Honda/Acura vehicles. Maintenance is more economical at a Honda dealer from my experience. My honda dealer charges $180.00 to replace the front brakes pads and resurface the rotors for a Accord compared to almost $300.00 at my Acura dealer for a TL or TSX.

the 09 tsx is 5.9" ground clearance as well. the 09 tsx is almost identical size wise to the 3g tl. same ground clearance, same height, same width, only the 3g is a couple of inches longer.

you can see the interior ergonomics difference between TSX/TL/Accord. TSX cockpit has distinct place for Audio/Navigation/HVAC. Not cluttered thats why it got more stars for Interior design in Motortrend.

yes - i need to test drive more. i'd like to test drive the new TL. i'm still not sold on it's styling - but i bet it drives great. I was really impressed with the new TSX. I had test driven the older first gen and honestly did not care for it. came away thinking I would have ZERO interest in owning one. despite the lackluster power of the I-4 2nd gen TSX, the overall feel of the car, the handling, features - made it a great "spare" family car. the MDX is our full time family car and the box is for fun....my existing DD is about the size of the TSX only VERY old and in need of replacement in the near future.
whilei the new TSX isn't what I would call a "fun" car - it was fun "enough" and i was amazed at how much it fit inside the car and trunk. i fit all three kids and stuff for teh beat on saturday - i have it all weekend..so i'm getting a very extended "test drive".![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
maybe they'll give me a new TL next time...![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
i think the new TSX is more fun to drive than my MDX - being lower to the ground and more nimble..albeit not as fast. my MDX would outrun the tsx.... i thought the handling was pretty good on teh TSX too. at 7/10ths it was fun to drive, although I coudl tell that if I really went all out at 9/10 or 10/10ths it would let me down. but i'm also used to having a midengined german sports car for that...and you can't compare m uch fo anything to a boxster for handling prowess...at least nothing from Acura... nothign FWD...
overall - i really like the new TSX. if I was abouto pull the trigger on another sedan and wanted someting feature packed, and reasonably peppy/fun to drive, and i just wnated something int eh 300/month lease range - i'd probably get one.
what ese out there competes iwth it in theis price range?
