TL For Christmas
I bought myself a new TL for christmas.
Picked it up this past Monday night.
This morning, a plow took the side of it. 300 miles on the odometer.

Merry Christmas to me.

That sucks big time. So much for "skilled government drivers."
I really hope the city pays for the damages.

Yep - it really sucked - watched it happen on a wide open dead straight country road. The guy did it in purpose or was probably liquored up after a long night of plowing.
Got an estimate - $6k - replace front panel, driver door, replace skin on rear passenger door and "repair" rear fender.
Better yet - I was told their insurance would probably not cover it since I was "parked". However, I was standing in front of the car when it happened. I had just gotten to my fathers house to help shovel out some snow at the bottom of the driveway and was going to park in that spot.
We'll see what happens - one thing is for sure, one of my biggest selling points on Acura is how incredibly perfect the doors close with such a beautiful "thump" and zero effort.
I suspect that door will never close perfect again no matter how it is repaired.
I was told by my insurance that if they collect from the towns insurance they will reimburse my out pocket expenses ($500 deductible).
I'll post a picture when it is repaired, I've taken it to a good place that assured me I'll never know.
Happy New Year folks!

@jvaruzzo. I remember when I bought a 2005 TL. During the 1st week I decided to take a trip. While waiting at a red light to get on the freeway, sitting under a telephone line, I look up and see 4 pigeons positioning their rears over my car and then boom, splat, splat, splat. Right on the windshield. Should've taken that as a sign. Got on the Freeway and while driving in the fast lane some clown throws a rock from the over-pass. Crunch. Right on my hood.
Got it fixed by a friend but never got the paint quite right. Unlike you I went cheap. The reason for this story is that I owned the car for 6 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Quickly came into acceptance of what happened and focused on everything that was right about the car.
You still have a great car and those guys will do a good job on your car. I think your real concern will be whether they can get the paint to match.

They did assure me (and put on estimate) that they only use OEM parts and paint and nothing aftermarket.
I do understand what you are saying, at one point I had bought a Mazda Miata as a second car, it was a wreck but ran perfectly.
To this day that was absolutely the most enjoyable car I ever owned. It was mechanical perfection, drove perfect, had faded red paint with dents and scratches throughout. I could of cared less about it getting hit with a shopping cart, dinged in the door, smashing into a pothole, etc.
We set ourselves up for disappointment trying to maintain perfection on an item that rockets 75mph down a freeway full or dirt, rocks, stones, loose pavement, bird poop, soot, 150+ degree surface temperatures in the sun, -10 degree temps in winter, with hail, sleet, freezing rain, salt, sand, wind, etc...but it sure is fun to try.

I know what you mean about trying to keep it perfect. Impossible really. I was worried that when I traded the car in I'd take a hit because the hood was a slightly different shade but I didn't. They didn't even look that closely. It'll be all good. Sorry you have to go through that nonetheless. Thank God, you or Pop's didn't get hit. That's where the real value in life is. Cars can be replaced.
Oh, I paid my 09 TL off for Christmas, does that count too?
Damn! At least no one was hurt, it's material, the city should be held liable. After watching CNN where an owner caught footage of his car being demolished by a plow I'm sure you can get some swift action. Congrats and let us know the results of your pursuit.
Ouch! Sorry what happened. It makes me hurt just looking at it.
What do you mean that the town's insurance won't cover it because you were parked? That's more the reason why they should cover it since you were parked and wasn't moving. There's not doubt on who hit who. The objective of a driver is to not hit stationary objects!
Now the town could argue that it was a snow emergency and thus you weren't suppose to park on the street. Those bastards!

Wow, that sucks.
$6K sounds about right. My '04TL got swiped like this while standing at a light by a chinese food delivery guy who fell asleep while driving. My curtain airbag deployed and everything....my repair came out to be $7K back in 2005.
And yes, the shop was able to leave the car in "like new" condition, complete with door "thump". Only thing was, when it was time to trade it in, the CarFax showed the repair, and it cost me then.
