Normal, well for me it is.. I average about 13-16 mpg with San Francisco city driving, always traffic and having a heavy foot doesn't help either.

I mostly drive within the city so that's why my mpg is always so low. However, if I travel out of the city via freeway, I would get about 25-26 mpg.

I have a 09 SH-AWD as well and I noticed my MPG has been pretty butt lately... I live in Jersey and my commute to school is 5 minutes everyday and I'm barely getting 14 MPG..

Soounds normal to me. I commute to school everyday about a 20-25 mile trip back and forth and I get roughly 17mpg.

short distances in winter and/or average speeds below 20mph will wreck your mpgs

It's not a fuel efficient car. It does only a bit better than my wife's 2012 Honda Pilot, though that has cylinder management. Of course, once you factor in the higher octane fuel, the TL is about the same cost-wise.

What type of gas are you using and where do you buy it from?

The car is not particularly thrifty in city driving. One thing besides the usual things you can do is to make sure you manually turn the AC off when the temps outside are not hot. In normal Auto mode, the AC stays engaged and cycles on/off to reduce humidity in the cabin. A nice feature, but if the ambient air is dry enough and cool enough, I keep the AC off, and it seems to improve MPG, particularly in city driving.

Good advise JM.

Im getting 19 mpg on combine 60%-hwy & 40%-city.

Not so bad lately cause gas is cheaper.

But this might be the only reason for me to change to TLX, not this 1st year model though, maybe second or third yr.

On paper TLX V6 is 25 mpg combine and premium fuel is just recommended.

PS-Pls dont start the thread about premium fuel.

Have you ever noticed that if you manually turn the A/C (button) on and off as needed, and if you don't wait long enough for the evaporator to dry, between turning off the A/C and turning off the car, you wind up with a mildew smell coming from the vents?

I used to toggle my A/C button off on cooler days to try to improve fuel economy, but the mildew smell singlehandedly drove me back to leaving the A/C constantly on. Nowadays, if don't want the A/C compressor to run, I just crank up my temperature setting (in Auto mode) by a couple degrees without ever touching the A/C button.

^^I've experienced the smell you are talking about on other cars I've owned, but not the TL. I read somewhere that you should turn the AC off 2-3 minutes before you end your drive to let the evaporator get rid of the condensed water droplets so they don't collect while the car is sitting and give you that mildew smell when you restart it.
