Tinting/radio reception

I just got my windows tinted and noticed that the AM stations have a weaker signal. Did anyone else experience this? Is this normal? is there a different kind of tint that would not interfere with these stations? FM is working fine.

Thanks for the helpicon!

What kind of tint did you get? The less expensive metallic tints will interfere with radio reception, navigation, and blue tooth phone.

Ceramic tints seem to be the preferred way to go.

+1 - if you got metallic tint it will interfere with AM radio because the antenna is built into the rear window glass.

I got crappy metallic tint on my 3G TL-S lease, and i completely lost my AM reception.

Thanks for the info....I will go check my reciept to see what kind of tint was put on there.

What a major bummer! And when I install a new amp, the static will be even worse. NOw I gotta go back and have it removed and a new one installed....

Shouldve done some homework first.

Thanks!

hey do you think a cut in the tint at the antenna locations will allow a break for the radio signal?

Maybe but I doubt it, I think the antenna is not in just one small spot, actually around the entire window. The tint place should have told you that you were going to lose AM reception, mine did on my old car, but I didn't listen to AM so I didn't care.

BEfore I had navi in 3G my first 3G I had metallic tint and it realled impacted AM reception, but then I got hooked on XM so didn;t care much. Ceramic tinit is the way to go on back window. I hear the 4G ANV antenna is no longer int he rear deck, but I would still get Ceramic if you plan on listening to AM/FM.

No. It will just ruin your tint.

Thanks for all the suggestions and input. The window tint is only a week old, so Im going to try to get the installer to redo and I would pay the difference for the material....long shot but I do want my AM to be as good as possible.
