Tint recommendations. 3M?

I have a 2010 TL with Grigio Metallic and Taupe interior. There's no tint on it, so I was looking at getting at tint done. The place I was thinking of uses 3M.

I was confused on the percentages, as they are offering 30%, 37%, 38%. From what I can tell from reading some posts, the lower % means it is darker, but the sampling catalogue I looked was reversed...the 30% was the lightest. Can anyone offer some advice on what to look for?

And is it safe to assume there is at a 75% tint on my car? It doesn't look tinted, but I'm reading that all 2009+ TLs have at least a little tint?

Tint rating or percentage refers to the amoint of light let into the vehicle. 35% tint means that 65% of light will be filtered out. The lower the number the darker the tint, less light let in. Tint also provides UV protection and keeps the car generally cooler. On my past vehicles ive gotten 20% tint all around. The darker the interior the darker the tint seems.

There is a tint on the tl, just st roll down then window halfway and youll see a slight difference in the light, but i think it doesnt make a huge difference.

3m is a good company for tints, but also make sure your shop has a good rep. The shop i go to for tints is amazing and they use a "premium Johnson window film"", which i never see ppl recommend on the forums. They give a lifetime warranty on the tint and work, and the tint never faded or bubbled.

Go to the regional section on this forum, find your area, and click the search this forum button, type tint, and see what ppl are saying about your local tint shops. Also look up local laws and make sure what your allowed to do.

I went with the 3M on my wife's 2010 TL and am very pleased with. Correct the glass has a slight factory tint to it and with my wife's TL having the black interior went with the 40% and looks just right. No issues with getting pulled over by the police.
You said you have the taupe interior so you could probably go 35% and still be fine.

i have a PMM 09 with ebony interior, dont see what the difference is between the PMM and Grigio (someone enlighten me), and i was thinking about going 20%, thats what i usually get. in NJ its illegal to get any tints in the front, but they target more of the ricers than sedans. i might go risk it.

Just installed Johnston ceramic - IR50. Wanted something light in color but effective on keeping out the heat and radiation. Didn't want to keep looking out for CHP if I went with much darker tint. No complaints so far but I also liked the color of the metallic tint. Installer advised me against it since it would impact the radio and maybe the GPS signals. Recommend doing research, including local laws, before selecting.

Thanks for the replies. I'm being told that they need to replace the rubber lining on the roll-down windows with felt? Does that sound normal? I'm not sure I want some guy replacing the lining in my car window to put tint in.

Do you mean the difference in color? The Grigio has a metallic shine/sparkle to it, so it actually looks different depending on the light and time of day. When it's rainy and cloudy, my car has a brown tint...at night, there's specks of red in it. In daylight, there's white specks in it. With the Polished Metal color, it's a duller gray. Very similar colors though.

I'm leaning toward just a rear tint that's light.

is it illegal to get the front tints in your state? i personally dont find the point of tints in just the back, unless if your doing it for your kids. idk if it'll be worth your money to get a light tint in the back. just my

the lightest id go would be a 35%

once you do get them, post some pics.

as for the felt, im not sure if they need to do that, i'll call up the local tint shop that i go to, and ask them.

They didn't have to do that with my car. I don't think I would want them messing with the window trim either.
