Tint question - 3rd brake light

I got my 2010 TL's windows tinted today and the tinter cut around the 3rd brake light. Can anyone comment on this? Is it possible to tint behind it?

It is possible to do both ways,it just depends on the installer and your preference.

When mine was done i was given the option of either.

You do have the option. Like you, I opted to have the brake like cut out.

I hate the cutout look. I briefly looked at the brake light and didn't see a simple way to take it apart to tint behind there? Anyone?

The window will have to be re tinted, trying to add it now will look like a patch job.

The plastic cover that is over the light is removable, the tint is cut in one piece and the applied over the entire rear glass.

The shop that did my car had the templates programmed into a computor and showed the tint with and without the cut out.

Personally i don't like the cutout so mine is covered completely

Very off topic, but I'm really digging those rims. Can you link me to them?

I know that it won't be "patched" and I know it would have to be re-done in one piece. I am willing to bet he couldn't figure out how to take apart the 3rd brake light so he cut around it but I am not happy about it as I like the fully tinted rear glass look. If someone can tell me how the brake light is removed, I will get back with the shop and remove it for him before I go so he can re-tint it. Thanks in advance.

I believe you just pull the housing down. It's secured with clips. It's pretty snug so be careful not to break the clips.

Just a word of caution...

When I bought my car it came with tint. I wanted it darker so I looked into having the old removed and adding new. I spoke with the guy that does the cars for a local Acura dealership and he advised me to put a light layer on the back window as opposed to removing the old and adding the new. He said it's very difficult to remove old tint from a rear window without damaging the defroster.

Thanks for the input. I sent an email to the shop requesting that they re tint the back glass and said I will remove the light before taking it over there.

as said earlier, the housing for the brake light just snaps out. shouldn't be any problem for anyone who knows how to properly tint the back window. my whole rear glass was also tinted.

I went out to the garage tonight and was able to remove the brake light covering in about 30 seconds. Since that area of the back glass is surrounded by the black dot matrix and a thick solid black band of whatever that material is, i'm wondering if he couldn't just cut a piece the size of that area and "patch" it seamlessly. I know it would look dumb on glass to try and mate the pieces but in this case, there is that black material on the glass there (like paint or something).

Thoughts?

Thinking it would save him a lot of time versus removing the whole piece and redoing it versus adding the patch?
