So i bought this 2010 tl sh from a dealer it had 92kms now has 113kms figured i believe im due for timing belt and what not. What all should be done? And anything to possibly upgrade while im doing it?

 

If it's 113,000 km than you are not due. 105,000 miles is when it is to be changed. Your car's MID will tell you when it's time. You still have about 50,000 km.

 

I think Acura says 105K or 7 years, whichever comes first.

 

Nowhere does Acura say 7 years (that I can find.) The manual only says to do the service when the MID tells you to. Generally, that's around 105k miles, but the MID takes into account the way the car has been driven and other environmental factors.

 

Alright well thats good to know. But when time does come. Any recomendations? Gates has a upgraded timing belt thats a lot stronger. Only thing i can find

The Gates kit is the one I was referring to.

 

I went with all OEM parts. The timing belt, water pump and tensioner pulley are critical to replace. The idler pulley and auto tensioner unit are optional but they're not very expensive so I went ahead and replaced them.

Also, if you go a bit over I wouldn't be worried. I changed mine at 127,000 miles and all the components, including the belt, looked nearly brand new. I'm convinced that Honda over-engineers these components. How often do you hear of a j-series V6 timing belt breaking?

 

What did you guys pay for the Timing Belt replacement?
My dealer is charging me $1400 in Michigan for just the timing belt and around $300 more for the water pump.

 

That's outrageous. I did the work myself and paid $270 for parts. The water pump takes all of 30 minutes after the belt is removed. Charging $300 for that is immoral.

I called around to a few shops before I attempted to do it myself using the Acura tech manual. I was getting quotes around $800-$1100.

 

Don't use the dealer. When they have things apart for the timing belt, it's a quick install for the water pump. Not $300 lol. It's a 15 minute install when changing the timing belt already. My garage quoted me $550 Canadian for just the labour.
