Thinking about jumping ship... 2010 Issues?
Hello,
I am currently considering purchasing a 2010 TL SH-AWD Tech 6MT non-CPO (they say its Tech but it has the 19 inch factory wheels, so I think it might be the Advance) or a Honda Accord Coupe V6 6MT.
I read a little bit about some of the paint problems on these cars.
Is there anything that I should be looking for when going on the test drive, besides the obvious? Sorry if this question may seem noobish.

my best advice is to look deep into the paint, have a led light, shine at it to see if there are any bubbles or mismatched panels.
also test drive the car you are buying.. press every button and use every feature.

6MTs are hard to find.. I was in the market for an SH-AWD and could not find any MT's wihtin driving distance... I was dead set on WDP / Ebony....and found a great one with 19s... which I wanted.... but I got an AT.... I was on the fence... half of me was fine with an AT and the other half woudl like a MT.... some people are dead set on a stick .. if you really want a stick, get one.
test drive it.. if you really want peace of mind, take it to a mechanic and get it tested out.. and you can always purchase an aftermarket waranty from Acura... I am guessing for around $2000... you could get a complete Acura care warranty that would cover your car UP to 100k miles....

Thanks for the responses guys.
I think I'm pretty much set on the 6MT. I heard about the 3rd gear and how it has a TSB on Hondas, but I didn't know it applied to the Acuras too. Still trying to decide between the Accord and the TL. I have a feeling the TL will be much more fun to drive.
I'm not sure, it might be the "HPT" package too, but I saw a CPO 2010 with the 18 inch rims and then the one I'm looking at has the 19's. Maybe it was an addon at some point in time.
The sales rep I had said he could tell the front bumper had been touched, but that dealers always repair it for $150 because a lot of them are scraped. It might have been in a slight fender bender, but "nothing strong enough to damage the clips on the bumper." It also has had 2 owners and then 1 owner for like 3 weeks. I'm not sure, the Carfax is just confusing too read.

It's a tech with the HPT package which includes 19's and summer tires that they no longer offer. You can get the same 19's on the newer ones with the advance package but it now includes high performing all seasons instead but it's not available on the current 6MT.
You need to really spend a lot of time simply looking at the paint. Check the edges especially for smoothness and look for overspray, dents, and mismatches. The dealer should willingly disclose whatever they may have had done to the car and if there is really nothing to hide, they should be willing to go over it with you using a paint meter to detect anything that may be off, it's really hard to cheat one of those things. Again check Carfax thoroughly.
You should go TL, it's just a really rare combo and you will really enjoy it. The 6MT issue may be present in either vehicle but it's not too hard to spot it right away. Test drive it enough until you are confident or have them remedy the issue and be held accountable if it pops up latter as part of the deal, get it in writting.
My 3G TLS had it, 3rd did not fully engage as expected, I needed to hold it there for a split second or so more and it would "give". Not really an issue when you get on it and shift faster and bit more forcefully, also not that bad for normal driving once you learn to be patient with the synchro. There are "quick" fixes for it as well, going with a quality synthetic tranny fluid. Good luck.
