Think insurance will replace whole muffler for this???
so i go out to my car yesterday and notice this. I also have a cracked rear tail light. someone must have backed into me and left.
my muffler is bent fairly badly. i have no idea if a body shop will just somehow heat this and/or pound it back into shape.. or if this means new muffler. i have good coverage and a low deductible.. so given that ther is a chip in the paint on the bumper, they are probably going to repaint the bumper... but if they repalce the muffler.. i'l just upgrade exhaust instead...
thoughts?

cover the bumper up with the A-spec kit for the same price as a repaint. Then use the money for a new exhaust if they do pay. Total damage here is probably around $700-800

csmeance - great idea. I actually already have the front lip.. so if they pay for a partial repaint.. i'll just add the rear and sides.
i looked up the cost of a new muffler.. wow.. almost $500 full retail.. if they pay to replace the whole thing... then i have the "hard" decision of decidign which aftermarket system to go with... ATLP, RV6, Comptech....

That's not the muffler that's damaged it's just the "exhaust finisher" or "exhaust tip" but what's surprising is that nobody seems to sell them separately and I don't see a part number for them. Your guess is as good as ours whether they would order a whole new muffler assembly or try to repair it.

you're 100% correct - it's just the tip that is damaged. I went to Acura/Honda parts websites looking for what the "tip" costs, but it does NOT appear to be sold separately. You have to buy an entire muffler. at about $500!
that may work out to my advantage. if insurance pays for a new muffler.. I can just pocket the money and pay the shop to pound it out as best they can. or replace the ENTIRE exhaust and apply the $500 to the cost of an upgraded system.
My fear is that the only systems on the market appear to be really loud and drone.. which I don't want. I like the sound of th stock exhaust..i just wish it were marginally deeper/throatier when I get on it. at cruising I want it quiet.
i want my cake and to eat it too.

i have NO mods to the exhaust. I was thining maybe HFPC + jpipe? fix my rear tip and leave the exhaust stock? KarCraze did that and said ti was a good blend of stock/aftermarket.

The right side muffler is one piece and is $985.35. The left side bolts on to the main pipe and may be the $500.00 price you quoted. Make sure they have the right part listed before you cash out. If the pipe isn't bent any muffler shop should be able to weld on tips cheap for you. Find some cool aftermarket tips you like and have them replaced.
6 speed and auto do have different muffler set up. The $985.35 price is for the auto.

I have a 2009 Automatic. wow.. you are right PaulAWD.. the RIGHT side muffler is ONE piece that runs all the way up to the block.. so the real question is whether the body shop and/or insurance is going to recommend swapping the whole thing out to fix the bent tip.. or if they are going to say that is crazy and just say they will hammer out the bend..???
If I get $1000 off my exhaust, maybe I'll just get a ATLP? or I coudl get a HFPC + JPIPE and then weld on new tips that looks cool.
i wonder if a body shop can hammer out the bend in the exhaust or if that isn't doable. I woudl think that even if you hammered it out, there would still be a visible mark/bend left where they tried to straighten it out.
I need to find someone local who has an exhaust and can let me hear it!

Your tip is not repairable. The insurance company and body shop will not try to fix it because that is not the correct repair. Personally you could bend it back and live with the cosmetic damage that show but the insurance and shops need to put the car back to pre accident condition.

insurance may source a used muffler to put on your car which may be cheaper. Be friends with the shop you get the work done at, they get paid for the repair but the parts they use is up to them and you for the most part. They'd be happy to take care of anything else while you are there for the extra expense.

my insurance paid for a new muffler.. they priced the part at about $900.
i am thinking maybe just bang it back into place and see if it looks good enough to live with. another option is to get different tips and have new ones welded onto mhy stock muffler.
or just bite the bullet and buy an ATLP exhaust?
i really dont' want to spend the $900 to repalce the whole setup just to fix a tip. i know insurance had to pay me to do that..but if I could get a muffler shop to bend it back to where it looks close enough.. i'd live iwth it to keep the $900 and get sometihng else fun for the car.
i'm also not totally thrilled about dropping $1500 for an exhasut that only make the car sound cool.. soudns like a cat back alone won't do anyting for power.

I am having my muffler replaced with OEM. The pipe was bent so it has to be replaced. I actually like the sound of the stock system so I'm happy with it anyways. Loud exhaust in automatics aren't always my cup of tea. If there was a good performance upgrade then I might think differently.

my muffler isn't bent that badly... i am going to see if they can fix the tip. another option is to weld on new tips..although I do kind of like how the OEM AWD tips look..the rectangular tips flow with the edgy angles on the car...
