They stole my baby!!

We really do live in a terrible world. I I know it's a shot in the dark but I live in the Suffolk County New York. The car was a 2010 Acura Tl LP: GES-2211 white base model, no mods. If anyone in my area happens to see it respond to this email: michaelrgruber87@gmail.com Thanks for any help guys

you're better off filing a police report.

a white 4G is a dime a dozen.

Did all the police reporting and no the car was in my driveway, I was leaving for work and left something in the house. Went inside and within ten seconds the car was gone. It happened so fast I couldn't believe it. I live in a residential area so I don't understand how it could of happened but it did.

ahh, so you left the keys in the ignition, running.

In Texas, it is ILLEGAL to do so, and some insurance companies will not cover your stolen car.

be sure to read NY laws regarding this matter, as you might be SOL.

again, it will be very hard to spot your car because white 4G's are a dime a dozen.

this law in Texas is put in place for this very exact reason; enticing a criminal to steal your running vehicle.

Fuuuuu. I feel lucky my car has never been jacked when I leave it running at the Starbucks... Does the 2010 TL have a key operated ignition? My ILX does not so Im not leaving my keys in the car when I go in the bucks but it is surely running and someone could drive off with it. The car scream at them that the key it out of range the the moment you turn the car off it wont turn back.

I need to sign up for AcuraLink... wonder if my ILX can get it.

Taken out of context that sounds much worse than it is.

Critical thinking would give OP the benefit of the doubt which to me showed him starting up his car in his driveway, realizing he forgot his wallet or sunglasses, car already on, you are literally a minutes away from grabbing your wallet, leave the car running, run inside the garage door, into your bedroom grab your wallet, back down the stairs 50 seconds later out the door and car is gone.

I myself would leave the car on as Id think turning it off then back on is a waste of my ignition coil. LOL Id pull the same thing in my neighborhood.

So did you leave the keys in the car? The 4G is push button start, and I know I can exit the car with it still running, but not sure if you can shift without the key being detected. If so, that could help if the guy couldn't start it back up.

It is illegal in the state of NY to leave a car unattended with the key in the ignition running so chances are the insurance company will not be covering this theft. I really feel bad for you OP, I hope it works out for you or that they at least recover the car.

I push start my car in the morning and go back into my house and have a coffee and breakfast with the key with me still, but then again. I live in probably one of the better, if not safest community in my city. That sucks OP. Hope they can recover it or cover it.

Damn.... sorry to hear and this happening during the holiday season makes it worse.
I thought I had it bad when my car was involved in a hit and run on Thanksgiving Day.

The base model does not have push button start.
And you can drive the car without the key fob in the car. It's just that you can start it back up once you shut her off.... at least thats what my dealer SA said.

I was thinking along the same lines but in the end, someone has the car and is likely stripping it for whatever parts they want/need/can sell. I don't think long term use of the car was ever in the cards.................

My guess is some kid or whatever stole it just because they had the chance. Most likely they'll ditch it at some street corner. Usually, strip downs are planned and the car is flat bedded away or towed, not driven. So either you leave your key in your car and go into your house on a daily basis and they've been planning this or you'll find the car somewhere else.

God, I hope that's not what happens. No amount of detailing can get rid of the smell of hobo-shame.

OP...sorry for your luck. It was a mistake, but one that anyone of us could make (no matter how many would deny it).

They don't use flatbeds if they plan to strip it, they stay in traffic and try to blend in on highways and then take the back roads when they get closer to their spot.

As for the card with push button start, I wonder if it shuts off after awhile, I know my wife's Maxima and my SHO will both shut off after time. I'm not really sure if it's timed or distance from the key fob. I need to try it in the TL.

OP - If your keys are truly gone with the car, you will want to replace your home locks if your house keys are with you car keys. They know the driveway they took the car from and am guessing your registration has your home address. Also if you have a garage and have synched the HomeLink, you will want to erase/reset those as well.

If you find it, just burn it.

Most cars I've seen recovered from being stolen and being stripped, it's usually in a trailer. Then again, it's mostly heavily modified cars.

I couldn't agree with you more. Having said that, I know that cops around here sometimes go through shopping mall parking lots checking to make sure car doors are locked and if they're not, you can get a ticket.

Something tells me the auto insurance lobby pushes for those laws to try to get people to be more careful to prevent theft (and maybe also to justify their decision not to reimburse in those situations).

Even if the car is recovered, read somewhere that in some state it may have to be changed to a salvage title?

Insurance companies don't work that way anymore. Most of them are heartless corporations bent on making profit at your loss. They will offer him low KBB. He'll probably take it because who has time to fight for more and wait to buy another car.

My father-in-law frequently leaves the house unlocked and the garage wide open. I've tried to break him of the habit, but at 66 yrs. old he still thinks people can be trusted. Hmm, wonder what happened to his rototiller?

Perhaps this is a wakeup call for you, OP. Might be time to examine some of your other security measures, or lack there of.

I'm very surprised that more cars aren't stolen out of driveways.

Now is the season when people warm up there cars. But they do A STUPID THING! They put their headlights on! WHY? This is a horribe give-away that the car is running and there is noone inside!

If your gonna warm up a car, leave the lights off and, if possible, lock your keys in the car using the other fob or remove the keys all together!

Or invest in a car starter...

Most cars won't let you lock them with the key fob if the ignition is turned on.

Wow, that's fucked up and sorry to hear about your misfortune. I sometimes leave the car running if I forget something in the house. I empathize with you. Hopefully your car gets recovered and with no damage. I hope it's some knucklehead kid taking it for joy ride and dumping the car somewhere. Keep us posted.

And NBP04TL3ME my DRL don't turn on until I release the hand brake.
