Are these gaps normal?
I thought the "plastic trim on the TL" debate was set long time ago....it is a real metal veneer on a plastic base, made with a process called PVD, "Physical Vapor Deposition", this is the official Acura news relase about the TL which talk about this.

It does not just "look like metal" it is metal....same concept for real wood trim in some cars, it is just a veneer.
It has the advantage of being more dent resistant, it make possible elaborate contouring and it saves weight.....and I absolutely love the texture of it.
My TL does not have any weird or uneven gaps, I rate the fit and assenbly at the same level as the Germans.
