Speeding ticket dilemna! (HELP)

I need some advice guys!

I bought an certified pre-owned 2009 Acura TL w/Tech about 4 months ago.

I love the darn thing so much, however its gotten me into a bit of trouble with the law. In the four months I've already gotten 4 speeding tickets in the TL!?!?!?!

Even after the 3rd one, I have a huge problem not racing it around when I get in it. Hence, why I got the 4th.

What do you recommend that I do if I cant keep my foot off the gas pedal? An option would be to turn it in, at this point if I get another ticket I run the chance of losing my license.

One option would be to trade it in, another option would be to drive w/o a license.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

How about some self control instead of blaming the car?

Dude, you are going to have to pay to play. Just because my car can go 130+ mph, I rarely go over 75. As Rick so well put it, self control is the only way. Know the speed limit and drive close to that.

Not trying to flame you but I have to wonder how old you are because, frankly, you sound liek a teenager. Maybe it is going to take losing your license, then your car to learn... maybe not. I am not surprised to hear about the 4 tickets.. you've been talking on here about racing, 0-60..etc... with your buddies

if you do lose your license DO NOT drive. You will get stopped again for speeding and you will be in big trouble. With those 4 tickets I hate to know how much your car insurance will be.

it seems that the 4g TL is too much for you to handle..

you should trade it in, and get a honda civic.

since you cannot control yourself from heavy foot syndrome, get something that lacks power. this way the car controls you, not the other way around.. but there is a downside, you wont get laid anymore..

btw, you have already racked up enough points to increase your insurance two folds.. hope your able to afford the payments on it..

not even worth having a car, that your gonna be watching for every cop, praying not to get pulled over,

fearing you will lose your liscence, or worse yet, get caught driving with a suspended liscence.... jmo

While I agree about self control, I had a colleague say the same thing about this when she (yep - she) bought the TL 4-5 years back. Got a ticket in the first month. I know I have been driving faster than what I used to in the Odyssey, but still below or just over the limit (up to 78). Word of experience - NEVER go more than 15 over the limit!

But in any case, 4 tickets in 4 months are wayyy too many. Did you attend traffic school? In CA I hear they show pictures of accidents that do a good job of scaring you (rightfully) into seriously reconsidering your driving mannerisms.

Here is some advise:
-If you are getting the tickets on the way to work, leave your self extra time so you are not "Rushing"
-Start listing to more relaxing music
-Keep your mpg in mind, use the instant meter on mid. (I'm sure it's pretty bad now)
-Look all the way down the road keeping your eye out for cops and other cars that are suddenly slowing down.
- Keep a safe speed limit that is moving with traffic, You Don't want to be the leading car.
-Take some defensive driving courses to lower your insurance and maybe you will actually learn something from it.
-Invest in a good radar/laser detector (V1 ?), this is not a tool to speed but to help keep you aware of your surroundings.

-Slow down! It's not really going to matter if you get to point B a little faster. Just relax and enjoy the ride of your TL.

I agree

Blending in with traffic is one of the most effective ways to keep yourself away from attention. Cutting in n out of lanes continuously and speeding will catch a cops eye from a mile away. I mean everyone has had their share of fun of course. But I'm sure everyone that thinks with their head on their shoulders knows when to slow down. Especially if you're averaging a speeding ticket a month. At your rate, a radar detector would've been your best friend

This thread makes no bloody sense to me. In other words you're telling us that your car is possessed by demons and satan forces you to get happy feet every time you get behind the wheel. Hahaha mind over matter my friend!

Well what I'm saying is that I bought this fast car to drive fast. When I get into my 2009 Acura TL w/tech (certified pre-owned), the first thing I wanna do is, drive the thing like its supposed to be driven. It makes sense right? I'm paying approximately $550 / month to have fun when I drive. So my instinct when I get in, is to have fun.

I dunno, this is definitely bumming me out.

Drive it like it was intended to be driven.

Your paying good money for it, why not make the most of it.

If those no good son of a bitch cops fuck with you, just drive without your license.

For real homie.

lol your insurance probably gonna up by double after these 4 tickets..

you should know, you worked in the insurance field..

oh wait, your only in the claims dept as mentioned.. nvm.

TL is not a car you race around in..

and by the way its not FAST! its average. most cars now are 300hp.

i know you live in socal, so better watch out, cops here will hunt you down for anything, i once got caught for doing 6 mph over the speed limit, and that was the dumbest ticket ever.

Well then i would suggest learning to be more aware of your surroundings (ie ALWAYS be on the look out for cops), and invest in a radar detector (as stated above) not a tool to speed but to help keep you aware of your surroundings !!

This thread...

Eazyrider, your best bet is to take a driver improvement course ASAP. You have accumulated to many points. Here in FL if you drive 15mph or over it's 4 pts and under 15mph it's 3 points. So if I was in your shoes (im assuming 3 pts for all the tickets) thats 12 pts in a 4 month period, my liscense would be suspended. I think your points/months go hand in hand.

Like 6pts/6 mos, 18/18 mos, 12/12 mos etc that'll net you a suspension. I'd go to the local dmv and get the drivers handbook an look at the guidelines. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if your liscense will be suspended soon. You accumulated too many points in a 6month period.

It has nothing to do with the car,it is has to do with you so trading it in will make no difference unless you get a moped,so other than telling you to take it easy and have restraint that is the only advice i can offer you.

You actually admitted to 4 tickets and now asking for advice? Something tells me you're not too smart.

I wouldn't worry about the tickets or the car being I'm sure you'll be losing your license and taking mass transit anyway.

You created a thread that said you don't turn your head when changing lanes because it takes away from you enjoying your music. Now you have one about your 4 speeding tickets in 4 months. Honestly it sounds like what Stew said, until you lose your license and get it back you are not going to learn.

Don't get me wrong, I like to drive fast, always have. I love driving fast in this car, but you know you are taking a chance speeding and getting a ticket. There are plenty of times I want to drive fast when the roads are empty, but I have this little thing called self control and stop myself. Driving with a suspended license is a great idea, when you get caught they eventually revoke it. You get caught driving revoked and they start putting you in jail. Then we can get a thread going about how you need advice because your car got you thrown in jail.

I'm not trying to be "harsh" but you have no one to blame for this but yourself and your attitude. You said it, you bought this car to drive fast and you pay $550/mo and feel entitled to speed. Obviously the police feel otherwise. Though having worked for a police dept for 5 years many years ago, I would love to hear a cops reaction when you tell him, that for $550/mo you are entitled to drive that car as fast as you want.

First of all, if you start a thread like this, you better be ready to take the heat. If you didn't expect these kinds of responses, you should not have started this thread.

Second, you said that you wanted to drive the TL the way it's meant to be driven. Exactly how is it supposed or meant to be driven????? Where is it written exactly...how it's supposed to be driven? You assume that because it has power, torque, AWD, etc that it's supposed to be driven hard and fast. You are absolutely wrong.

Third, you need to have self-control. Driving is a privilege. You are abusing this privilege. Every officer of the law will lock you up if you go into getting stopped with the story "I'm just driving the car the way it's meant to be driven".

Laws (Rules of the Road) are meant for you too.
