Hey guys!

I have been on this site for many years now. I currently own a 2nd gen 2001 Acura TL with 118K miles, I have had it since I was 16 and it is my baby.

I recently found out I might be getting a new car (or used I should say) as my college graduation present this summer. What I really want is a specific 4th gen. I am very familiar with these cars, my dad currently has a 2009 Acura TL tech package he bought back in 09 and I absolutely love it.

I am going to be in NO rush to find the exact one I want. I am super picky and looking for an exact TL. It must be a 2012-2014 with Advance Package, SH-AWD, Black interior and black blue or grey exterior. Yep, I know, going to be hard to find, but it will be so worth the wait. Im assuming around $25,000-$30,000 used.

2 Questions:
1) Anything specific to look out for when buying one, I obviously know these cars well being my dad owns one but maybe someone has some advice. I know what the advance package consists of so specifically looking for that with the sh-awd and my color combos.

2) Is it worth buying a dying car with the new TLX. Even though I have heard many people say they prefer the 4th gen TL over the new TLX I dont know if its worth waiting a year for the used TLXs to start popping up and get one of those.

THANKS and cant wait!

One question I can not figure out, is does the advance package have adaptive (radar) cruise control? I know it has ventilated seats, blind spot monitoring, and bigger rims, what else?

As for the 4G TL vs TLX... go and test drive the TLX.

If you make the decision for the 4G TL, check for prop shaft and torque converter. Internal tranny filter has a TSB, but since its only a $20 part, so no big deal. Also, some are reporting oil consumption so check the oil level.

The GLM was a pretty popular color so it might not be so difficult to locate one.

I agree with the above, you need to go test drive the TLX and make your own conclusions. You're going to get biased opinions in the 4GTL sub forum.

Are you looking for one with the 6MT? That will be even more difficult locating one.

you have many options if your not looking for a manual. If you are, there is no advance package for the manual. The TLX is a nice looking ride, but not my style . Not to mention they have tranny issues, year one.. Go test drive it and make your own conclusion. Your definitely not going to get much love for it here in the 4G section.

You named the 3 things it has over the Tech package. No adaptive CC.

Good luck in your search. It's a great car.

I test drove a 2010 tl sh-awd tech and it was nice. Then drove a 2015 tlx and wow was that a nice car. I am now trying to convince my father to buy a 2015 tlx for himself new and I will inherit his 2009 TL tech package. It wont have sh-awd or advance package but if its a hammy down then beggers cant be choosers. Thanks for the info guys
