Somewhat stupid question(s).....

I Simply loved my '06 TL and wouldn't have (and didn't) given it up without a fight.

But it's time to move on, and I'm replacing it with a 4G TL, but I have two questions:

From everything I can see, the '09 and '10 are exactly the same with the exception of the 6MT option. I'm planning on an AWD Tech package with an automatic. Are then model years really the same insofar as options etc??

If they are the same, what is the current incentive to buy a '10 over a reasonable mileage Certified Pre-Owned '09? I mean, I can get essentially a new car, with a better than new warranty, without the "drive-away depreciation" of new.

I'm ready to go out in the next few days and plunk down cash (No financing involved) for the car assuming I can get the right color and trim. I don't have to do it tomorrow, or this month... but I can (e.g. I can wait till the color and trim appear at a nearby dealer), or I can walk on the lot and pay cash for a new one. But I don't want to spend the money for the sole and only purpose to drive a never before owned car.

Thoughts and advise??

D.

IMHO, the differences between 2009 and 2010 5AT SH-AWD are minuscule, and I do not see any problem with your logic.

The only reason I got a 2010 was to get the 6MT version.

brassai, I bought a 2009 TL AWD/Tech lightly used with 2500 miles and got it for $31000 plus TTL, so you can get one for a great price if you shop around for a used one. You are right in saying that once you buy a 2010 TL and drive it off the lot will depreciate its value significantly but you also have to understand that if you were to sell or trade in the TL say in 4 years, the 2010 will fetch more money than the 2009 so it kinda balances out in the end

Nothing major, but there are some differences. Here's the list...

I agree, if your not looking at a 6MT, then go for a '09 if u can find one!

Well... I appreciate the feedback, but I found a flaw in my logic:

There really aren't any '09 or '10 TL AWD/TECH in the certified (or not) market near my area. I did my own search of the area found ONE '09 car, about 60 miles from where I live, however the color isn't even in my top 4 (I can live with that) but even worse, it's listed for almost a thousand more than I've been quoted for a '10.

<sigh>

If I could find a '09 for $31K I'd pull out my checkbook faster than this message could be displayed.

My Wife is being pretty hard-core that she wants a USED car, although she agrees with a certified one... so my issue is finding a way to convince her that with the way local dealers are going, I'll pay 38K for new, $31K-$38K for CPO and likely get a lesser model (just the way the local market is... they want to sell new ones and not CPO's). Most of the used market are 3G BASE models listed at $35K-$36K, and a few BASE 4G models that are listed at $37K-$39K. My local dealer told me they'd match the Edmunds price guidelines for my zip-code and that's about $38.5K for a 4G AWD/TECH.

Sheesh... now not only do I have to sell that to my wife... we're in disagreement over color. She wants "light as possible" White would be her preference, or maybe Palladium Metallic as it doesn't show dirt as much as a dark color (and that *is* true) but I'd like PMM (Polished Metal Metallic) or maybe even Grigio Metallic. At least we agree on the Taupe interior. Heh... my dealer has one on the lot right now that isn't all that bad though ('10 AWD/Tech, PMM, Ebony interior) that while it's got the dark interior it's not so bad.

AAUUGGHH.

At least it was a no-brainer for her to agree to another TL.

I have looked many times at buying a slightly used Acura and have never been able to come to an agreement on the price. Each time I have ended up buying new because there was really no difference in price. I see people paying as much for a CPO as I paid new. Just crazy.

I bought a 2009 TL SH-AWD with Tech Pkg with 2500 miles for $31500 plus TTL or I could have bought a 2010 version new for $38000. Made sense to get the 2009 and both exterior and interior conditions were like new

Again, my checkbook is trying to write the check itself.

I'm just south of San Francisco... and I've looked at every dealer in a 250 mile radius from here. Those cars and deals just don't exist out here (if someone in the Bay Area can show me different, we can work out a finder's fee!)
