Shortlisted few TL's..need help
Dear All,
I have finally decided to get a luxury car and after driving Infiniti GX37, Lexus ES and Acura TL shAWD, I settled on Acura..Really an awesome car and I'm excited to purchase one. Unfortunately I don't have many around me so I'm going to Chicago to buy one
These are the cars I have shortlisted and their price. I would appreciate if you can tell me if these are fair values. the dealers are not willing to negotiate much on phone. Hope to have better luck when I go this weekend. The cars are all CBP, shAWD with tech package
Year Miles Price On Lot since Certified Warranty left
2013 35082 27971 5/5/2015 CPO 27,000 /40 months
2012 42804 25500 7/31/2015 CPO 19,100 /24 months
2012 38374 25978 6/13/2015 CPO 23,626/24 months
2012 45726 25000 8/5/2015 CPO 16,326/24 months
2012 26917 25500 5/12/2015 Toyota 23,000/14 months
If you have bought/traded in TL shAWD with tech package what do you think might be the fair price?
Thank you all for your help in saving me some money! I will be hanging out here more often now as my mind is set on Acura TL.

What dealers are you looking at? I've done a lot of business with Muller Acura in Hoffmann Estates and have been pleased with the dealer experience.
I agree you should try for the lowest mileage and you should arm yourself with value figures from Edmunds.com - I know most dealers in the area will use their numbers - KBB is always high and they won't use them.
If you're planning to keep the vehicle a long time I think an extended warranty is a good idea.

Thanks GLM. I indeed have one car shortlisted from Muller's. hard to bargain on phone. Was planning to visit them and see if they willing to bargain more in person.
Personally I have been using edmund TMV and giving my offer just above the Trade in TMV. Muller guy used car gurus for the instant market value.
I'm planning to keep the car for a long time. So will buy the extended warranty.

Thanks Jterp. Indeed I will visit the Toyota dealer first tomorrow. They had the car on their lot for last 3 months. And carfax said "noise checked out" whatever that means. If I end up buying from them I will be taking it to Acura dealer for PPI before I put the cash down.

I would look at dealerrater.com to see which of those dealers have good reputations, it'll make the buying process easier and more pleasant. I've bought 2 cars from Acura of Libertyville and they were great to deal with. When I bought my car from them, I believe dealerrater had them rated as the top acura dealer in IL.
Look at edmunds.com and plug in the parameters of the the cars and see what they are saying as the real value, I've used them to get a starting point on negotiations and they've been pretty good.
I've got a 2010 that was CPO and I ended up getting the extended warranty because the SH-AWD is fully loaded, I did it as peace of mind. But I also got a good deal on it, don't quote me on it, but I think I got them down to $1k. If you decide to go with an extended warranty, you should negotiate it as well. I don't put a lot of miles on my car, if I had to do it over, I may have foregone the extended warranty.
Good luck,
Nick

I would go with the 2013 and haggle down since it has been on the lot for 3 months plus it has the most warranty left.
The problem with some 2012 models is that they started going on sale at March/April of 2011 so the in-service date could be early 2011 which means you are left with very little factory warranty time wise.

Thanks Estabro...I was looking at the cars and they did change the tire. There was some noise on the brake but probably because the car wan't test drove much.

Thanks Nick. I'm using edmunds.com but I just have a general question. Do I work with these dealers on the TMV trade-in nos or retail TMV? And do you think it is possible to get 10% off their quoted price?
btw I did look at Libertyville. Unfortunately they have only one 2012 AWD with tech package and they are asking way more than the ones that I shortlisted. I will stop by Muller's Woodfield Acura
Thanks for your advice.

Must agree with gkon on this, check dealerrater.com a shady dealer can end up costing more in the long run.
I would start with the 2013 at McGrath Acura, later model longer warranty on the lot longer. If they are not willing to negotiate just move on. Take your list in, let the sales person know there is competition and you are shopping.
Good luck, let us know what happens.

I try to shoot for something close to the trade in number and start from there.
As acura of libertyville, I've always seen their starting prices higher than everyone else, but they will negotiate.
I agree with sincity, if you go to the dealership, bring your list and let them know you're shopping different dealerships. I've always found out who the Internet sales managers are and send them emails and I make sure that all email addresses can be seen by the others.
So if I'm looking at cars from several different dealers, I'll email them all at one and let them know the particular price and car each has and start the process there, you would be surprised how fast they contact you. Since it's getting close to the of the month, that'll play into your favor as well. When I'm in the ball park, I'll actually go out to the dealer and look. But you really have to know what price you want to pay.
You may want to also check dealerships from Wisconsin and Indiana to see what they are selling cars for as well.
One more item, always check a VIN against 2 reports like carfax, etc.
Good luck,
Nick

I looked at two 2012 models last year and one had an in-service date of April 2011 and the other was January of 2013. I bought the one with the 2013 in-service date. The car didn't roll out of the dealership until 2013 so I lucked out there!

Thanks Everybody for your kind advice. I'm finally an owner of 2012 TL SH-AWD Tech. I got the graphite luster metallic/Umber, CPO with 38,000Miles. Unfortunately out of 6 4 sold out by the time I got there but I lucked out on this one. Rides fantastic, super clean and was driven for its entirety in Florida. Paid 24,200 before taxes.

Thanks man! First i hesitated since I have 2 little ones ( imagine the upkeep) but I think that had to be one of the better int/ext combo I have seen on Acura. Normally it was black on black or gray on black

Thanks...It doesn't look nice right now as I spillproofed it as I have 2 little ones. Hope to get some mats and spill proof covers. That permaplate was expensive
