Running racing fuel in a 2012 TL J35Z6.

Would running a higher octane such as racing fuel or like 95 to 101 octane ruin the engine?

And what exactly are you hoping to gain from this?

If you're not tuned for it you won't benefit from it, it can actually hurt performance. Compression ratio's determine what grade is best for an engine.

Research compression ratios and how a combustion engine works.

Well at one fillup. I used shell V-Power with nitro and then added a octane booster and felt a difference all throughout my power band. Just wondering if running a even higher octane would give me more response.

You might be feeling a small difference if you were using less than top tier gas and the v-power did some cleaning as it goes through the fuel system. Get a good bottle of Redline SI-1 fuel system cleaner.

Any higher octane will not do anything. Racing fuels are only beneficial for racing-built motors....regular cars will not benefit from racing octane.

Not to mention they are very expensive and very cumbersome to filll up each time...

Thanks. Thats the info I wanted to know really. I will try that redline si-1 and see how she feels.

Yeah an older member on here who also was active on the s2000 forums liked the redline SI-1 cleaner and the s2ki forum had a good feeling about it too...one of the few things that may actually work compared to the million other fuel system cleaners out there...

Well I honestly dont need a fuel cleaner. Since ive had the 12 TL. Ive only runned 93 octane. So I'm taking that the J35 is fuel injected. I'm still new to all this car stuff. Just trying to find the right mix to get the most out of my TL and having her running good.

Redline SI-1 is one of the better fuel cleaning additives in the market and it boosts octane by several points! What several points means 1/10ths of a point! SO 93 octane can become 93.7 octane depending on the additive. Same with all other octane boosters. The reason it feels faster is probably the gas you got has 0 ethanol. Ethanol has less energy per unit than gasoline, but it's higher in octane. Good if you can take advantage of it but bad for naturally aspirated engines. Also our engines aren't "direct injection" but port injection where the fuel is dumped before the intake valves, not the combustion chamber. That's in the new TLX's and earthdreams engines.

Running higher octane fuel won't do much with a factory ECU/tune. If you have a setup where you can take advantage of the extra octane then it helps such as a turbo or s/c setup.

Also some higher octane fuels have less energy than gasoline making the car have worse efficiency!
