Replaced cabin filter.... wow!
my tl has 17k for miles. so i decided to replace the cabin filter.
im glad i did, wow, what a difference from old to new!
the manual says replace it every 15k miles. there is a diy thread with pics somewhere on the zine.
step 1: remove your stuff from the glove box.
step 2: remove glove box divider.
step 3: squeeze both tabs on each side of plastic filter
front, and should pull out....this takes a little effort.
step 4: remove old filter, place new in holder, and make
sure the pleats are in the guide tabs. then reinstall. 5-10
min job. ahh fresh air in the tl!

i got the filter from our local parts store. the box actually
said 2004 honda accord on it. honda/acura must use the
same cabin filter in all there sedans? i paid $14.16 for
it. i just bought a k&n air filter from the same parts store
for i think $63.00 +tax. a stock air filter was $22.00.
mine as well get the k&n for a little more.

every 5k miles when i change the oil i also change the cabin filter. I live in phoenix, lots of dust. Heres a pic of my stock engine air filter after exactly 10k....exactly 10k. After closer inspection there was actually a decent size hole through the filter material which was letting in plenty of contaminents. didn't take a pic of that though. I believe honda recommends chaning this every 15k,...this is the dirtiest engine filter i've seen on any of my vehicles here in the valley. Did it's job, with exception to the hole, which annoyed me.

Isn't this filter just filtering outside air? Or is it doing something else in addition to that?

Also, when you have a clean filter the fan motor does not work as hard to move the air, so that helps extend the life of the motors...

I usually take mine out, blow the air hose (gently) on it and blast some of the big crap out of it. I've been getting another 15k out of mine on both cars using that method.
You can also use the shop-vac on the dirty side as well.
EDiT: Of course here in Oregon we have the rain 9 Mo. of the year to cleanse the air for us. No "haboob" here.

im going to be using my air compressor to blow out
my cabin filter.... maybe once every 6-8 weeks?
the instructions for my k&n air filter says: every
50,000 miles clean and re-oil filter. more often
cleaning may be needed in dusty conditions.
naturally k&n sells the filter maintenance kit,
something like $20.00? gonna clean it at
least 1-2 times a/year.

You'd be surprised what you can do with it.
Sweep? Who needs to sweep the garage when you can blow it out.
