Mine cracked over the winter and I bought a new one in spring but finally getting around to changing. So a vid I found on youtube. it showed the guy prying out from bottom where it has two clips and there are two hinged clips on top and you unplug defroster and snap new one in. so I tried my panel removal tool and tried to gently pull out from bottom and it would not budge. I know there is some adhesive on middle part of mirror but nothing would give. so now the mirror only moves side to side and not up and down and feels a bit loose, UGH. is there a sticky on how to do here. I could not find on a search. hoping i didn't eff this up royally.
Try heating the mirror up with a heatgun or blow dryer. Be careful not to overdo it though. I've done this on both the passenger and drivers side mirror. My wife eff'd the passenger side assembly by mashing it up against the garage when pulling out and the drivers side was so jacked up with the brown/rusting issue that I finally got fed up and forked out the $$ for a new one.
Both of them gave a lot of resistance when trying to remove the glass itself, even after warming it up. I was able to remove the passenger side successfully (the glass wasn't broken - just the housing, so I reused the glass) but I ended up breaking the drivers side when trying to pry it loose. That adhesive is a bear.
It seemed like I was going to break something when removing them but luckily I didn't. I just tried my best to follow the tech manual.
As far as the mirror not going up and down anymore - you may have just separated the actuator arms. Once you remove the glass, check to see if the up/down arms came loose. If so, you can reconnect those.
Losiglow ,
Thanks for the detailed instructions! So it looks like i was doing it correctly but that adhesive has it really locked in. It was a mid 80's day and had drivers side facing sun in morning so it was pretty warm. Maybe I'll try my thin flat head screwdriver, can you get it up in there to break the adhesive bond? And hopefully I did just disconnect the actuator arms when I was messing with it.
ugh
