Removing shift knob on 6 speed tl

Might sound like a dumb question. But when you twist counter clockwise it twist leather with it, what's the trick?

On my 3G I just turned it counterclockwise and it came off there might be a tab you have to press in on the bottom of the knob before you twist. Just screw on the new 10x.1.5 clockwise and you should be good to go. Id let you know for sure when I finally get my new 4G and put on my Maven shift knob. Been waiting 3 weeks for my car to get delivered.

I haven't yet but I'll probably cut out styrofoam and fit it around extension.

^basically what we do as well.
you can use anything that "fills" in that space...

styrofoam, cardboard, zipties, etc.

I just ordered the Skunk2 knob and am wondering how this works. Do you leave the bottom nut off the Skunk2 and just wrap a zip tie around so it's oriented the same way the stock "clip" on the bottom of the stock shifter would be? That kinda makes sense but just wanting to confirm.
