Rear View Mirror Auto dimming defaulting to on

I recently tinted my side and back windows with a 20% tint and really prefer to have the auto dimming feature off on the rear view mirror.

While I can turn off the dimming by pressing the bottom button on the mirror itself, ever time the car is restarted it defaults to being turned on.

Is there a way to customize this to default to off? Its bad enough to have to press the OK button every time the car is started! Anyone care to share a solution for this auto dimming default being on?

Why do you want the auto dimming off ?

You'll only notice the dimming effect at nighttime, or is the green LED light bothering you during the day ?

i have the same problem, on my 07 i turned it off once and it was always off, now its off until i start the car the next time, then its on again....

i just live with it, i think the only other thing you could do is to unplug it from the mirror...

The reason is simple - its dark enough with the tint of the rear window and the added darkness from the auto dumming makes it too dark to discern vehicles in the mirror.

Am thinking that unplugging the mirror is the only solution. Saw somthing about using black electrical tape over the sensor but wouldn't that cause the mirror to dim all the time?

No, bright lights cause it to dim...darkness would prevent it.

It is light sensitive so it would seem that a low light reading wouldn't effect the dimming function much.

if ur tint is dark, wont the mirror dim less now? or does it dim just the same as if there were no tints?

i find my 4g does not dim nearly as much as my 3g did. my 3g would dim to the point where all i saw was 2 super dim headlights. and barely any outline of the car. my 4g i can still see the car pretty clearly.

^^^

but you want to see the car clearly.. its a safety thing..

personally i dont mind as i always drive with my windows up and i have 17% tint all around so my tint dims it for me..

for god sakes i cant back up without my driver and passengers side windows roll down.. that is how dark it is.

Well I tried covering the sensor with electrical tape and that seems to negate the need to turn the dimming function off. I need to double check but I think the amount of dimming is the same now with it on or off.

I recently picked up a '13 SH-AWD Tech and also would like to not have the mirror dim unless I want it to do so. My 07 TL has a switch to turn dimming off. The first post in this thread says dimming can be turned off "by pressing the bottom button on the mirror itself". My mirror has no button - just the 2 light sensors. Is my only option disconnecting the cable on the back of the mirror?
