Question about Brakes/ Braking

Hi all,

I currently own a 2013 RDX and a 2013 TL. RDX was purchased in last July and the TL was bought last month.

I see a distinct difference in the braking power of these two vehicles. The RDX brakes seems very strong and i am able to stop very quickly. TL on the other hand seems mushy so much that I have no confidence that I can stop in a hurry.

Both cars are FWD in my case. Thoughts? Is it just some brake adjustment etc. or are TL brakes not as good?

Thanks

Both have OEM tires. RDX has roughly 12000 miles on it now and I bought it new. The braking has been awesome on it from Day 1.

TL tires are brand new I got it with 4 miles on it and now has around 1000 miles.

Tire size is standard OEM for the trims. 18 inch for RDX and 17 inch for TL

I can't comment on the brake feel compare to a RDX but my brakes feel strong and have no problems locking up the OEM all seasons on demand. Perhaps there is air in the brake lines still from the factory bleed?

With the car on try standing on the brake pedal. It should move a bit then firm up. It should not go all the way to the floor. With the car off it should firm up after a couple pumps.

Try taking the issue up with your dealer, perhaps trying out the brake feel of a similar TL on the lot.

If the brakes seem mushy, there may be air trapped inside the system.

A trip to the dealership for warranty repair is the next best move.

Air in your brake lines would give you a huge sign. How long has it been since you've replaced the fluid or brake lines. Check all of those. Brake pads are another factor. Cheap brake pads give a fade effect. Look into checking your fluid. Make sure it hasn't been over 2-3 years since its been flushed. Also look at its clarity. Check what brand of pads you have on the car and check the lines to make sure its not flexing.

OP says it has 1,000 miles on it, so it is brand new.

^^^^^

Even brand new cars don't come out of the factory 100% perfect.

When I bought my 2G TL-S eleven years ago, the brakes didn't feel right on the then brand new car. It had an unusually long brake pedal travel for stopping.

Needless to say, I brought it back to the dealership, and after they purged the brake system, the brakes were back to normal working performance.

Yep its pretty common. They use an automated vacuum system on the line during manufacturing to fill the brake system. This usually does not get all of the air out of the lines, in fact it really is never as good as a good as an old fashion two person bleed by hand.

I am sure the dealership has a power bleeder instead of doing it by hand, but they will pay more attention to it than the worker on the line did and should be able to get all of the air out.
